Cover Reveal – The Key to My Heart by Nikki Lynn Barrett @Stormgoddess925

Harmony’s Echo, Texas is a small town being put on the map. It all started with Baby Stetson when Avery Callimer finally gets the answers she’s longed for and finds the courage to chase her dreams.

Then, in The Melody In My Head, a woman on the run finds her place in this tiny map dot of a town. Lead guitarist Jameson finally has to face his past and has a chance at love….

Coming in July 2014, readers will learn about Blaine Grant, Jameson’s sister. You met her in The Melody In My Head, where there’s a glimpse of something going on between Blaine and Baby Stetson’s keyboard player, Randy.

Now their story is almost here. And today, we’re revealing the cover for The Key To My Heart. Are you ready?

One dream fails, a passion burnt out…

Blaine Grant hightailed it out of Harmony’s Echo a year out of high school to find herself. Finding a passion didn’t come as easily to her as it did for others around her. Now, Blaine has come home for good with mistakes she’d like to forget, but the past doesn’t want to forget her. Everyone thought she’d been selfish to not come back when she was needed the most, but Blaine never let anyone know the emotional hell she went through.

Another dream is just beginning to see the light…

Randy Hughes has always been the shy nice guy. He’s the glue that holds his family together. He’s the one who takes everyone in when they need it, and he’s the one whose own dreams are ignored. Now that big things are happening for the Baby Stetson band, Randy has to decide how to handle his family when his dreams are on the line…

A friendship is changing.

One spur of the moment, impulsive move leads Randy and Blaine into a dire situation that may bring them together, or pull them apart, just when he’s finally able to gather the courage to tell Blaine how he’s felt about her all these years…

Revisit the characters you’ve come to know in small town Harmony’s Echo, as more changes settle upon them.

Excerpt from The Key to my Heart:

“So, was that the end of my payback?” Randy grinned when he walked back inside after helping his sister get the kids to the car.

“Oh come on, it didn’t turn out that bad. You cleaned up pretty good with your moves.” Blaine laughed.

“Wanna know what I noticed?” Randy asked softly, standing so close. Another jolt of electricity shot through her.

“What’s that?”

He moved closer. “For a little while, you looked like there was a bit of passion there. With your dancing, I mean. Your eyes lit up when you were teaching me some of those moves.” His voice went even lower, husky. Sexy. Randy moved his hand and gently caressed her cheek. The look in his eyes was intense, full of…hell she couldn’t even figure out what. “I think you still have it in you.”

“ I-” Blaine was at a loss for words. He had a point. She had been enjoying herself. Randy made a great dance partner and even though he was very awkward at first, teaching him turned out to be a blast. She’d forgotten for a few hours how much she didn’t want to dance again. “You’re right. I did enjoy it. When the idea popped up in my head at first, I wanted to smack myself for saying it. But the way they all calmed down and got so in to it, and watching you turn into a one left foot kind of dancer, I did enjoy it. “

He still had his hand on her cheek, gently rubbing with his thumb.

Blaine took that moment to lean close and kiss him again. “Thank you, Randy. You’ll never know how much tonight helped me, even when I was supposed to help you.” She whispered after pulling away.

Randy finally moved his hand from her cheek, instead placing it on her shoulder. With his other arm, he pulled her closer. Without another word, he pressed his lips to hers. As she wrapped her arms around his neck, Blaine closed her eyes, losing herself in his kiss. He tightened his hold on her. “Blaine.” He uttered before his tongue plundered in her mouth, exploring.

Waves of need wrapped around her.

Then she pulled away. Abrupt. She opened her eyes and stared at Randy. She sucked in a breath. “What was that?” Crap, that sounded so utterly ridiculous.

“Well, I’ve only heard rumors, but I think that was a kiss.” Randy raised a brow as the left corner of his lips twitched upward.

bitches be writin’ guest blog with nikki lynn barrett

Hi everyone!

First I want to say thanks for letting me hijack your blog today!

I’m talking about covers today. Yep, book covers!  One of my favorite parts of the finalization of a book is the cover. And with me, I try to come up with a cover that has a huge, integral part of the story somehow.  The cover is supposed to signify something, right?  Don’t get me wrong, I love the good looking half naked male models, but I think it’s starting to get a little cliché. I want a cover to tell me/give me an impression about the story I’m looking at.  I’ve been graced with five amazing colors for my published books.

The Secret Santa Wishing Well, my debut book. I love the cover for this one! It’s got holiday colors, a touch of magic, and it really gives me the impression that something magic is going to happen. Love. Love is magic!

Then came Baby Stetson, my second novel. It’s the kick off book to my Love and Music in Texas Series. The cover AND the book title play an important role with the story. It’s bright, different, unique, and I love the way the cover came out. It’s simple, but it tells so much about the story.

Same thing with The Melody In My Head, Book 2 of the series. There’s a guitar there because the hero is a guitarist for the band.  I love the couple, too. My husband actually picked out their picture and when I saw it, I knew they were my perfect Jameson and Melody.

The fun thing when I was searching for cover ideas on Melody, I came across a couple that I felt fit for my next book, the ‘follow up’ to Secret Santa. On the 12th Date of Christmas’s cover came out AMAZING!  Putting that side by side with Secret Santa gets me all holiday festive like. The blue…I just love it, and the couple on the front really fit Robin and Jonas. Playful, in love, young.

Then comes my latest, my new release A Masterpiece Of Our Love. I actually came across the picture and used it to create a scene in the book. But then not only is it a scene from the book, it play an important role because of the way we altered the picture a bit. My heroine, Becca, is an artist. It’s her way of expressing herself.  I’m in love with it!

A cover goes a long way. I think if you have the power to make your cover, REALLY try to fit your story somehow. It’s one of my favorite processes, and I hope to always make my covers all about the story inside.

What kind of covers do you like? I’d love to know!

frolicky friday fun-12 questions with nikki lynn barrett

Today, I want to introduce you to Nikki Lynn Barrett, who lives in Arizona with her husband and son. *turns and waves prettily at Nikki*  She’s an avid reader, a dreamer, and loves everything about books. She runs a book blog, an online used bookstore, and writes various genres of romance.

Nikki can also be found outside with her camera when a storm is near, snapping photo after photo. Her dreams of becoming a writer started when she was young, when she started writing books in one subject notebooks by the fifth grade. The Secret Santa Wishing Well is her debut book.

And without further ado….I give you Nikki…Take it away woman!

Describe your novel in seven words or less?
Emotional, inspirational, holiday, love, hopeful, magical.

Favorite book?
Nothing Lasts Forever, by Sidney Sheldon. It’s not a romance. It’s kind of…everything. Drama, romance, thriller…A librarian recommended it to me when I was probably 12 or 13, and I just love love love that book.

Fictional crush?
Damon, from Vampire Diaries….hey, they were books first!

Where were you born and where is home for you now?
I was born in El Paso, Texas. I’ve lived in Germany and Massachusetts as well, and  I now reside in Phoenix, Arizona.

Who is your favorite character that YOU have written?
Ben, the six year old of my heroine. He really stole the show….and the response toward Ben has been amazing so far.

What inspired you to write your first book?
I wrote my first book in the fifth grade, and the inspiration was the people on the street I lived on. It was my favorite time. We always had so much fun playing and growing up, so I was going to write a whole series. I even used our real names LOL. I never got past the first book…but it was written in those spiral notebooks.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?
Everywhere! It could be a phrase, a character, a situation….Seriously, there’s always ideas floating in my head. I keep notebooks everywhere to jot things down. Life itself is an inspiration for a story….

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional with whom would it be?
Jo Dee Messina…She’s so perky and fun, and I love her singing. I’d love to be able to perform on stage and do the things she does, even if I have go to back to my life LOL. Okay, my life is not bad, it isn’t! But come on! A chance to tour? Uhh, yeah!

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I also run a book blog, Storm Goddess Book Reviews & More. I’m a mother to a rambunctious three year old, I’m a wife, I do photography, recently I started a jewelry design business with my mom….Let’s just say I’m on my toes a lot! 🙂

Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Right now I’m working on a contemporary romance titled ‘Baby Stetson’ It’s about a woman that was left in a Stetson hat when she was a baby, and was adopted by two older people. Now, she’s in a country band in Texas, and wants to pursue her dreams, but has reasons for holding back. Her biological father has just contacted her, and she’s curious about her mother, though apparently the mother doesn’t want her to know who she is. Meanwhile, a secretive, mysterious man by the name of Lucas has come to town and she can’t seem to stop her attraction to him.

It’s the first of a little series about Love and Music in Texas. The second book will feature the same town, but books 3 and four will stray a little bit. Still features singers, but the towns will be different.

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?
I’m going to keep em coming! I write in so many variety of romance subgenres, so you just never know what’s going to come from me next. I’m going to split up the series a little bit, so after writing Baby Stetson, I’m going to work on a paranormal suspense romance.  One thing you’ll always know is that the hero and heroine will have their HEA, regardless of the genre I write.

Where can readers stalk…um…I mean, find you?
Bring on the stalking, go ahead…I dare you 🙂

The Secret Santa Wishing Well
Published by: Nikki Lynn Barrett
Contemporary holiday romance
About 55,000 words/184 print pages

The magic of Christmas has been lost to Jacob Winston. At the suggestion of his ill sister, Jacob takes a job as a Secret Santa at the mall, hoping to restore his Christmas spirit. Even that doesn’t seem to work, until a special little boy ambles up to make a very special wish…

Cheyenne Jensen is struggling to raise her two kids without the help of her ex-husband who refuses to acknowledge his daughter’s existence and doesn’t provide for the son he does. This Christmas is shaping up to be as heartbreaking as the last, until her son Ben’s kind actions lead a stranger to them.

Ah, but it’s Christmas time and the magic has begun.

When Jacob and Cheyenne meet, neither can deny their immediate attraction to one another. As situations arise that require they spend more time together, their feelings grow stronger and stronger.

With Christmas fast approaching, the pair learn what matters most in life. Now, if only they could ditch the ghost of Christmases past.

Maybe this holiday will bring some wishes come true- for everyone after all.

It didn’t take long for her to come back. Jacob moved to the living room, standing and waiting. When he saw her coming, he closed the gap between them. Before he could could think twice, he touched her shoulder gently, wanting to thank her for the evening.

But instead of talking, he leaned in and kissed her. Just a light kiss. Gentle. Friendly.

Until she responded. She had her arms around him, pulling him for another kiss. Deeper. Sweeter. She tasted so sweet. Her need made him swell. He could do this all night. Jacob pressed her against the wall, their kisses deepening with urgency. He ran his fingers through her fine hair. Hers wrapped around. his neck, rubbing lightly.

Jacob pulled back abruptly. “Cheyenne,” he ground out. “We have to stop.” Before I lose it. He didn’t want to stop. He never expected her to reciprocate like this. Wow. Maybe it wasn’t one sided after all. Jacob sighed.

That halted everything. She pulled away, looking at him with wide, beautiful eyes. “I’m sorry. I pushed. You must think I’m a fool. I thought, when you kissed me…” Cheyenne attempted to move out of Jacob’s embrace. Oh, damn. She thought he didn’t want her. He did, oh, how he did.

“No, no. Honey, that’s not it at all. Kissing you was magical. Amazing. But we just met. I don’t want to take things too far. But I would love to see you again.” He pushed back loose strands of her hair that hung over her face when she’d moved. She looked so vulnerable. Was she going to cry? Oh hell, he wouldn’t be able to handle it if she did. The last thing he wanted was for her to be upset with him.

“I’d like that, too. It was a wonderful, amazing day, and I have you to thank for it.” She nearly whispered the words, choking up on the last part. “God, I’m a mess. I’m sorry. There’s been so much going on, and my signals are going crazy at the moment.”

Yours aren’t the only one, Jacob thought. He pulled his cell phone from his pocket, typing in her name in the contacts and handing it to her. “Can I have your number?”

She laughed. “Of course.” Her fingers brushed his as she took the phone from him, tapping in her number. She handed it back to him. Electric shocks of awareness zipped through him. His gaze lingered on her, knowing he needed to get the hell out of here before he lost it completely.

Thanks so much for having me today! I really appreciate it!
