Author Interview with Louisa Bacio @Louisabacio & VBT for The Big One

louisabacio_tourbutton

You BitchesBeWritin’ come up with some wicked, naughty questions! Thanks for “going there.” Ahem, not that I answered everything. We’ll start out sweet, and then get the spicy.

Describe your novel in seven words or less?

Trapped in a bunker with a rocker.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?

Too much! One of my girlfriends says my fridge “scares her.” I stock lots of fruits and veggies, and a bottom drawer full of various cheeses and tortillas. There’s a mixture of two types of sausages to extra firm tofu. We’re a quandary.

What astrological sign are you? Do you feel you are like the characteristics of your sign?

I totally embrace my Libra nature. Life needs that balance. I like to make people happy, and do my best to weigh both sides.

What are 4 things you never leave home without (apart from keys, money and phone)?

1) Lip balm (I’m an addict); 2) shoes (hee, really I’m not a barefoot gal); 3) water bottle (it’s a stretch but as the forward to my book says, I’ve been in lockdown. I want liquids); 4) it’s not an absolute, but with my background in journalism, I usually can be found with pen and paper, too. If you don’t have it, you’ll need it.

If you were a Star Trek or Star Wars character, which one would it be?

I’ve been told I’m a bit Deanna Troi from Star Trek Next Generation. She possesses empathic characteristics. With my “dark, bedroom eyes” (yes, a guy told me that), I can look into people and just know what they’re thinking! *wink*

“Desire lives longer inside of love.” Agree or disagree? Why or why not?

What a poignant quote. My heart flips reading it, which means I have to agree. Are we going to come down a bit? Tell the truth? OK, every relationship is not perfect. There are ups and downs. The desire can fluctuate. But if you have love as a binder, you get past those points and it lives.

What is the difference between erotic fiction and porn?

Have you seen some bad porn? I swear there is no cheesy soundtrack playing in the background of my love scenes. It’s all paid royalties! Seriously, it’s about the love. I’d love to see some really good porn that’s catered to women.

How much does your own sexuality come into play when writing erotic fiction?

There are some times of the month – I’m thinking when the hormones are raging – when the sensuous writing comes easier. Good thing I don’t always write in a linear fashion, so I can take advantage of it!

Advice for the newbies just entering the realm of erotic romance?

Don’t censor yourself. In the first draft, let all the craziness and kinkiness come out. If you need to calm it down in an edit, then that’s a different story. But also stay true to what feels comfortable to you.

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

Often, I tend to write short. With a busy life, I like to be able to read a book without it stretching on for days or a week. The novella length is perfect for me, and that comes through in my writing, too.

The-Big-OneExcerpt

“You want out of here? Fine, go for it.” Kayla pointed toward the doorway. “Be my guest and try to break the lock. If you succeed, I make no promises to your safety out there. We don’t know what’s happening. Maybe this was a minor shaker, or maybe the real thing, but what’s it going to hurt to sit tight and figure it out?”

“You plan on helping me pass the time in a more enjoyable manner?” He wagged his eyebrows at her, and despite herself, and her promise to have a strong will, a flutter started low in her belly. She couldn’t be attracted to him. He was such a neophyte. People like him never understood her.

“You watch yourself there.” She turned around and stalked to the other side of the room. Okay, given they were in such a small space, there wasn’t any getting away from him at the moment. He—and people like him—made her so mad.

“What about being optimistic?” he asked. “Thinking about the best in people. Self-fulfilling prophecies and life affirmations?”

“You can be positive all you want, and it’s not going to fill up your tank of gas. Having money, in smaller bills, hidden in case the banks crash and your ATM card doesn’t work—that’s being prepared. Just because I believe in reserving some supplies doesn’t mean I willed all this to happen. It did, and I’m ready for it.”

“‘Reserving?’ Is that what they’re calling it nowadays? I thought it was more akin to hoarding.”

Hoarding? He really didn’t get it. His comment hung in the air, and she did her best to ignore it. No matter what she said, the scorn from nonbelievers hurt. She grew up with her father being harassed by family members. It was only a matter of time before it was her turn. And her sister? Well, forget about telling her anything about being prepared. Maybe as destruction hit and a certain segment of the population was taken out, they’d be all gone. All that would be left would be those who’d taken the necessary precautions.

A wave of dizziness at the implications hit her, and she sat back down.

Right. As if life worked like that.

When an earthquake strikes, the unlikely couple gets trapped and finds a few ways to keep themselves busy. Once reality sets in, will their differences leave them on shaky ground?

Excerpt:

Nadia Gorlando and I had just gotten off the exercise bikes in the gym when one of the academy’s coaches, Peter Ross, headed over to us, all smiles.

“Hey, Nadia,” he said, his all-American grin widening and his blond hair flopping down over his forehead, “I need a huge favor.”

I flicked my gaze to Nadia. She raised one of her perfectly shaped eyebrows and waited for him to continue. He did.

“I totally lost track of time just now and I have an appointment with Travis Connolly. Would you mind wiping down my machine for me? Or maybe stick a note on it saying it’s out of order? I don’t want to leave it all sweaty for someone else. You’ll be doing me a real solid. I’ll owe you.”

My jaw almost hit the floor.

Now Nadia rolled her eyes, looked over at the offending machine, then back at Peter. “Sure, I understand,” she said, as cool as ice. “The world’s number one can’t wait. Go right ahead—I’ll fix it for you.”

He babbled a load of thanks, then jogged out of the gym.

I gaped at her. “You’re not going to do it, are you?”

Nadia chuckled. “Of course not. He may be coaching Travis Connolly and Rufus Lampani for the US Open, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to clean up his mess.” She pointed with her chin over to the machine Peter had just vacated. “Come on, V, I’ll show you how I’m going to deal with this.”

I followed her, grinning. Her tone told me that it was going to be something fun. Well, for us, anyway. Probably not for Peter.

Sure enough, when she returned from the room off the side of the gym, she had a pad of paper and a pen in her hands. Deliberately shielding the pad from my view, she wrote something down, then pulled off the top sheet. Folding it, she then propped it on the sweat-slicked seat so the writing was on view to anyone who happened past.

When I’d read and absorbed the words, I turned to Nadia, impressed. Her smile lit up her face, showing dimples in each cheek, and her brown eyes gleamed with amusement.

It was in that moment that I decided I had the serious hots for Nadia Gorlando.

The sign read,

PLEASE EXCUSE THE STATE OF THIS MACHINE. PETER ROSS, TENNIS COACH SUPREMO, “LOST TRACK OF TIME”.

Bitches be Writin’ Interview Session with Sara Brookes @Sara_Brookes

Welcome Sara to the Bitches Be Writin’ Interview Sessions. Sara is visiting with us to promote her book Edge of Need.

Now, Sara fictional crush?

Roarke from J D Robb’s …in Death series. OMG. He is too delicious for words.

What is the last book you read?

Cherise Sinclair’s Edge of the Enforcer. I bought it shortly after it released in May, but until I got through edits on two different books, I forbid myself from reading it. As soon as I did though, PHEW, I’m glad I finally got to dig in.

If you were a Star Trek or Star Wars character, which one would it be?

Now this is my kind of question. Probably Han Solo or William T. Riker. I don’t need to be the center of everything, the one in charge – but I am damn sure going to have some fun while I’m doing what needs to be done. *g*

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Certainly – how about a little hot something…

His mouth closed over hers and he swallowed her soft sigh. Their powerful connection fired all thrusters at once and shot through him with an immeasurable magnitude. This heat between them was so intense, it got under his skin in a way nothing ever had before. And the way she kissed him back with utter abandon was fucking perfect.
He nipped at her lower lip, sliding his tongue between her parted lips to steal her breath. His stomach twisted at the thought of her offering herself to him this way. Baring her body for him to do as he pleased. He wasn’t looking for a slave, but he certainly enjoyed having a sub like Sutton puttering around his apartment bare ass naked. It allowed for certain…indulgences.
Like now for instance.
He turned, placing her on the high counter and nudging her legs apart with his shoulders. Giving into his earlier idea, he dipped his head to drag the flat of his tongue against the tight little nub of her clit. He tipped her hips, and was rewarded with the glorious sight of her legs opening wider as she lay back on the counter.
Dipping lower, he hooked her legs on his shoulders, his hands fitting around the lush curves of her ass. “You still smell like me, like my soap. So damned good. Soft. Wet.” He darted his tongue out, moving slowly to lick the length of her pussy lips until she started to whimper. His cock twitched, demanding he free it just so he could dig deep into the tight embrace of her cunt.
An expert at denial, he refused. Time to savor her.
He kissed her slowly, exploring every bit of her sensitive skin as the rawness of the moment stretched between them. Her soft voice sighed out his name as her body arched against the counter, her calves tightening against his back. Arousal was doing delightful things to her skin, the healthy flush an aphrodisiac.
This moment of her offering was so much more than he could have ever imagined.
So perfect.
So right.
So unbelievably decadent as she pulled him under all the beautiful things about her.
She sucked in a breath, her body going rigid as her hands clutched the end of the counter. He growled her name as he shifted his hand to finger her pussy. Her whimpers morphed into low, long sounds in her throat as she rolled her pelvis to open herself wider.
With a sharp cry, she came in a hot rush against his mouth. Watching her ride the wave of orgasm nearly made him lose control and climb on top of her. But he was already running past empty and needed something to reinforce the second wind he felt building in his gut.
He pressed a light kiss to her hip. “Fabulous appetizer.”
Sutton’s eyes popped open. “You’re kidding, right?”
“I don’t kid about sex, or eating pussy.” Adam hauled her off the counter and into his arms. “Especially one as magnificent as yours. I fully intend to feast on you again for dessert. Maybe even a late-night snack. Breakfast too, if I have my way. Mmm, the Sutton diet. I could get used to the idea.”
“Deviant.”
“And damn proud.”

Erica Jong says she loves the word cunt and wishes she could “rehabilitate” the word and make it beautiful again. Do you feel the same way about some of the words you use in your stories?

I do. And I didn’t always feel that way. When I wrote my very first erotic romance, the word cunt couldn’t be found anywhere. I was even shy about using pussy. I felt like I could get my point across about what I was talking about without being so blatant. But then I wrote Ragged Edge, the first book in the Body Masters series and all hell broke loose. *g*

Is a polyamorous relationship just a fantasy or can it truly be successful?

With the right amount of work by all parties involved, it can be successful. I imagine that kind of arrangement takes a great deal of work, more than the traditional relationship model of a couple. But I don’t see any reason at all why it has to be relegated to just fantasy if all parties agree and they want to put in the time and effort.

Do you think it is best to call body parts by their anatomically correct names, or come up with euphemisms?

I call ‘em like I see ‘em. Occasionally I will change things up a little bit just for variety so it’s not all pussy, dick, cunt and cock. But for the most part, that’s exactly what they are.

Which of the characters in your erotic romance/erotica would you most want to run away with for a weekend?

All of them! They can start lining up right over here.

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

Excerpt:

Melodie Carr reluctantly clicked delete on the e-mail with a disappointed sigh. She couldn’t contribute to the charity calendar for the Hero Family Fund, a cause very close to her heart, because she didn’t know anyone suitable to photograph. Although her photography work varied—from children to pets, landscapes to portraits, she’d done a bit of everything—she got the impression the call for calendar models sought hunky guys to create a collection to make women swoon. Unfortunately, she didn’t work with professional models and therefore had to give up on the idea. A cute dog, something she had plenty of images of, simply wouldn’t cut it.

She might not be able to contribute, but resolved to find out when the calendar would be available and do her bit to help by buying a few copies. Some eye candy on her wall would definitely not go amiss, and her friends Poppy, Lola and Charis, and her grandmother, Joyce, would no doubt appreciate it. She grinned. Joyce, always good fun, said, there’s no such thing as too much eye candy. The saucy old broad.

Her smile faded. She missed her, having not been back to Boston to see her friends and family for a while. She should ask Joyce to come and visit her in New York—she hadn’t traveled much, and would love the hustle and bustle, the endless opportunities to people watch. Maybe Melodie and the rest of the family could buy her a ticket for her birthday. She’d have to give it some thought. It sure would be nice see a familiar face, other than via Skype.

Someone pressed the buzzer to her apartment and she sighed again. It was probably a delivery driver trying to get into the building. It wouldn’t even be a package for her.

Taking her time getting to the intercom, she hoped whoever it was would go away. No such luck—the buzzer squawked again. She inhaled deeply, trying to rein in her annoyance and avoid being rude or abrupt.

“Hello?”

“Hi,” a male voice said. “Are you Melodie? Melodie Carr?”

“I am.” A caller looking for her? Had she ordered something and forgotten about it? “Who’s calling?”

“It’s Patrick,” the voice replied. “Patrick Brogan.”

“Patrick….” Speechless, she laid a hand on the wall to steady herself as the bottom dropped out of her world. Evidently, running to New York—albeit under the pretense of a good career move—hadn’t been enough. Her past still followed her, still tried to flood her with reminders of what she’d lost.

“Melodie?”

Damn, the man’s persistent. She never should have admitted her identity before asking his. She could have told him he’d gotten the wrong place and sent him away.
