Sometimes it takes an opposite to see the beauty within ourselves. – Quoted from Snake Charmer blurb, important theme to discuss to you?

I love the saying, ‘There’s someone for everyone’. What I see in the mirror when I look at myself isn’t necessarily what someone else sees when they look at me through their eyes. I like that idea.

I like that someone can see what I consider as faults and can turn them into attributes. That’s what happens in Snake Charmer.

Both men feel they are unworthy of the other because of the way they look or what they’ve done.

snakecharmer_800Blurb for Snake Charmer:

Sometimes it takes finding an opposite to show us the beauty within ourselves.

When security consultant and ex-mercenary, Gabrielo ‘Snake’ Barbas, thwarts an attack of one of his co-workers, Riley Banks, he takes it upon himself to keep the smaller man safe. His job is made harder when he discovers the attacker is actually Riley’s ex-boyfriend, a ruthless man from a very wealthy and powerful family.

After a night of passion, Snake decides to take Riley far away from Richmond, Virginia to a town in Wyoming for the annual Cattle Valley Days celebration. He should have known that sex with Riley wouldn’t be enough, but he feels he has nothing else to give such a nice guy. Riley is the sexiest man Snake’s ever taken to his bed despite Riley’s claim otherwise.

Riley knows he’s average-looking at best, so why does Snake continue to flatter him? It’s obvious he’s not going to kick Snake out of bed, even after Snake informs him that sex is all he has to give. Why does Snake see him so differently than the rest of the world?

While Riley is busy trying to figure out the man who touches him like no other has before, Snake is busy trying to protect him from a monster in a business suit.

Excerpt for Snake Charmer:

 “It’s only four-thirty. Where’re you going?” a co-worker asked.

“I have an appointment.” Riley Banks took a moment to clean his desk, locking all financial documents away securely before shutting down his computer. He usually stayed until at least six, but he’d received a disturbing call from his ex’s parole officer that morning.

“Did you clear it with Steven?”

“Yeah.” Riley shrugged into his suit jacket. No one at Tisdale Security knew about his past, and he hoped to keep it that way. Cal was used to him leaving much later in the work day, so if he could get out and get home before Cal came looking, it could very well save his life. It was worth pissing off a co-worker.

“See ya tomorrow,” Riley called out before leaving his cubicle. His job in the accounting office wasn’t exciting, but he felt safe working for the security company. Just because he didn’t want his co-workers to know what he’d been through didn’t mean he wanted history to repeat itself.

When the elevator doors opened, Riley stepped inside and stood in front of two muscular men. He didn’t know any of the specialists by name, but there were a few he recognized. The two behind him must be new, because neither looked familiar.

“Did you see that blonde in supplies?” one of the men asked. He groaned. “Man, she has the best tits in the whole building.”

Riley rolled his eyes. No wonder women thought men were pigs. “Her name’s Rachel,” he added to the conversation. “She’s married with a fourteen-month-old son named Ben.” He stared at the men’s reflections in the shiny elevator doors. It was obvious by the way they sneered down at the top of his head they hadn’t appreciated him butting in.

The moment the doors opened, Riley shot out of the elevator and headed to the side door that would lead him to the parking lot. Although he hadn’t approved of the way the two specialists had talked about Rachel, he wasn’t dumb enough to stick around for the fallout.

Nearing his two-year-old white Toyota Camry, Riley fished his keys out of his pocket. The hair on the back of his neck began to prickle when he heard a noise off to his left. Don’t look. Just get in the fucking car, he told himself.

Release Blitz: Cooking up a Storm by Ashley Ladd @ashleyladd

cookingupastorm_800Blurb:

Brooks and Rique desperately want to win the head chef’s position for eccentric millionaire Jonah Verleun on his beautiful, private, but peculiar island that includes a zoo full of exotic animals, an amusement park, and a monster shark tank beneath Jonah’s bedroom floor. While Brooks wants the job to escape his heartache and the lover who thwarted him, Rique is hiding from the mob hoping to live long enough to pay them off with the prize winnings. Fierce competitors, they cook up a storm in a series of cooking challenges all the while trying to turn down the heat on their intense attraction. When a hurricane strikes the island, the storm Rique has been cooking up, explodes and no heart or body are safe.

Excerpt #1 (X-rated):

Troubling thoughts whirled through Rique’s mind. Why had Jonah called him and Brooks into his office? Had they violated some fine-print rule he’d missed? Had Jonah learned about his debts and Mafia troubles?

Gulping, Brooks shared a worried glance. His gait was uneven and stilted and his frame was stiff and wary.

“Are we in trouble?” Brooks whispered

Worried about the reason for their summons, Rique forced himself to relax and not shake his head at his lover and his loose-cannon lips. As much as he was beginning to love Brooks, there was no way he could share his mob secrets. Not only would they overly alarm Brooks, but the security team might overhear and he didn’t trust anybody.

Jonah locked the door and leisurely returned to his desk. He folded himself into his chair and looked, long and assessing, at first Brooks then Rique. Finally, he said in a smooth, debonair voice, “No. Not at all. But I wish to remind you of your contract.”

Damn! Rique gulped as they pulled up chairs across from their boss. So they were in trouble. Too late, he realized his toes were tapping fast and that his fingers were linking and unlinking, so he stilled them.

“What about the contract?” Brooks inched forward in his chair and wrung his hands in his lap as his eyes bulged.

Jonah bent over the desk then he pointed at the security cameras.

Before a word came out of Jonah’s mouth, Rique had an epiphany. As he recalled Fiona’s warning, his heart threatened to burst. “You’ve been watching us. Everything. Everywhere.

Several seconds later, Brooks blanched and his Adam’s apple convulsed. “You saw us together. Intimately, I mean.”

Leaning closer, Jonah nodded. “Yes. You gave your signed permission, and this is my private island which means it’s governed by my rules.”

It could mean Rique’slife if he left. With his heart feeling as though it was beating in his throat, he pleaded, “Please don’t kick us out. Our love lives are our choice and should be private.”

He watched a deep flush crawl up Brooks’ neck and into his cheeks as Brooks begged.

“Please don’t hold it against us. We didn’t plan to fall in love. It just happened. We haven’t hurt anybody.”

Fall in love? Shock and wonder filled Rique. Warmth flowed through him. So Brooks felt the same way he did. Giddiness replaced the dread born moments before.

Brooks loved him. And he loved Brooks. How could he have fallen so hard, so fast? He reached over and put his hand on Brooks’ shoulder. Then he turned and faced Jonah. “I won’t apologize for loving this wonderful man. And I won’t stop loving him. If it means we can’t be together then I’m torn whether or not I still want the position.”

He couldn’t believe he’d just said that. Damn my heart!

When Brooks squeezed his hand and tilted his chin, light refracted off his glasses and made his pupils look fractured. “Ditto. No disrespect intended, sir.”

Laughing heartily, Jonah slapped the table, causing a few sheetsto the floor.

Is the man crazy?

Blushing, Jonah gave them a shy smile. “Don’t apologize, and please call me Jonah. I loved watching you. I wanted to join you. I came as much as you did.”

The New Emancipation

by Alisa Anderson

Every time you follow behind

You’re just taking your place in line

Never stop to question the agenda

Doing what somebody told you again the

Only way of finding the truth is to ask

But instead you’re hearing lies that are masked

Behind the phony smiles and the miseducation

Don’t you think it’s time you had a revelation?

Accepting what you hear

But raising no objection

Afraid to raise your voice

And walk a new direction

These chains ain’t gone, cuz I can feel them getting tighter

They tried to trick you, making them a little lighter

Forget the mule and forget the 40 acres

Nobody gives a damn, especially the law makers

Stop whining bout the past, and worry about the future

You’re wasting too much time and yeah, I know the truth hurts

Forget the way it was; it’s time to start a new trend

It’s time to show an iron will that will never bend

We need to let them know

We won’t go gently in the night

It’s time for us to show

The power of our might

Emancipation is only the beginning

Keep moving forward if you’re thinking about winning

We need to make it clear, we know the game they’re spinning

And if it’s wrong then we just need to keep on sinning

How long will they kill our prophets, as Brother Marley said

How long will we be passive, and let ourselves get misled

How long will you continue eating Propaganda fed?

Cuz they’ll continue to feed it until we wind up dead

If we rewrite the story

Then a new journey will unfold

We can reclaim our glory

Fulfill the legend foretold

Emancipate yourselves…

You have to find your truth

When will you finally see…

Wo one can free us but we

I hate the way you follow, and never try to lead

I hate the way you ignore every fucking misdeed

I hate the way you excuse the evidence of greed

I hate the tangled web they weave on you to deceive

I hate the way you never demand and take a stand

I hate the way you stay quiet and never take command

I hate the way they preach about equality

But then comes the white sheets and other “frivolities.”

And yet you seem to think

There is no misconception

While we teeter on the brink

Of global disinfection

The end is coming much sooner than anticipated

Meanwhile intolerance is being proliferated

Too late to turn and then pretend that you didn’t see

Too late to run cuz there’s no where else you can be

Too late for justice, people take it by other means

Too late to realize the world was never as it seemed

Too late you smell the stench of death and deterioration

Too late perhaps, to stop the threat of annihilation

Just know that you’ve been warned

Of what will happen here

And your soul will not be mourned

If you follow behind in fear.

Every time you follow behind

You’re just taking your place in line

Never stop to question the agenda

Doing what somebody told you again the

Only way of finding the truth is to ask

But instead you’re hearing lies that are masked

Behind the phony smiles and the miseducation

Don’t you think it’s time you had a revelation?

NikkiPart1psjpegBlurb: When Jess packed up her belongings and fled her small hometown in Kansas, she never looked back. Free from her family’s dark past she was finally able to pursue her lifelong dream as a professional dancer. She never expected to find herself at his door…or at his club.

Nikolas was unlike any other man she had ever met. Sexy…Alluring…Predatory. Dangerous. The kind of man with more secrets than even she had. Every instinct warned Jess against knowing him further, but she always did like playing with fire…

Nikolas Roman took one look at Jess and knew she was trouble from the very start. But something about the defiant twist of her mouth and the wide, haunted eyes of a damaged soul touched him in places he had long ago thought dead. He knew he needed to stay far away from her for his own sanity, but like a moth to a flame he was helpless to resist…

Working at Takers gentleman’s club was the last place Jess thought she would find herself, but she quickly learned how the game was played. See what you want, take what you can get…but at what cost.

Excerpt:

This man was seriously bad news. One she knew she needed to stay away from.  She was fully aware of his reputation from Allison. Not only with the ladies, but of being a notorious Mafioso. She also knew he was very much married, an arranged marriage at that, but supposedly there was some story there and she was never discussed. Ever.

Nick swung his leg over a chair and sat down. “Okay, let’s see what you got. Get on the stage and I’ll clue Mikey when you’re ready. Oh and Manhattan…how do you feel about going topless?”

Jess hesitated for a moment before she climbed on the stage.

This was the end of the line for her. She was desperate now. If she didn’t make this work, it was back to Kansas for her. Back to her old life, back to her family…back to her father…back to his world.

Becoming the failure he always said she would be. Not this time.

He would never get the opportunity to touch her again.

She shivered. She was never going back to them. Or him. She was done with that portion of her life. Not even if said life, depended on it.

Which, in a way, it kind of did. For her piece own piece of mind, for her sanity, to escape the dark recesses of her mind and find some semblance of happiness, she needed this.  Just once, it would be nice to get a decent night’s sleep.

No nightmares. No terror filled panic attacks, wondering if tonight was the night her father emptied his gun in her head. No dreaded anticipation of what was to come.

Foul, alcohol-laced breath…sweaty hands…suffocating her…moving all over her body, touching her…violating her…going places no father should ever be…

“Kid?” Nick’s voice jolted her out of her thoughts and she looked up sharply and met his gaze. It was too soon to mask the naked fear and haunted, gnawing ache in her eyes. She knew he could see it all.

What surprised her was his curiously knowing silence. As if he knew exactly what she was thinking and feeling, and could relate. He was giving her an out.

One that she was not going to take. Jess shook herself.

“I guess I’m ok with it. But will you, I mean will they be able to touch my boobs?” If he caught the slip, he didn’t let on. “And why did you ask me where I was from, if you already knew?” She was annoyed at both him and herself for the slip and for the way he made her feel.

There was an awkward pause before Nick finally spoke. “I ask because I can. It’s my club. You got a problem, there’s the door.” Nick arched his brow at her.

She nodded and glanced away. Ass.

He continued. “Now then. No touching by others period.  However, there are no rules for me. You’ll never have to do anything you aren’t good with. I promise.”

Why the fuck did he promise that?  Jess wasn’t about to ask.

“Mikey, Hot Child in City. When you’re ready, kid.”  He leaned forwarded and put a cigar in his mouth.

As the music started playing, Jess wasn’t really sure what to do at first.  How the hell am I going to do this?  She closed her eyes and started swaying to the music.  When she opened them she looked directly at him and something took over her. She found herself dancing for him, seducing him with each hip grind and twirl around the pole.

She noticed the more she danced the harder he breathed. He was actually getting a rather large hard on and didn’t seem to care if she knew.  He was feeding her, and she got lost in his eyes and forgetting they were in a club. His club.

He was intrigued with her from the moment he saw her. Her blond hair was shining in the lights. He could see through the white tank top she wore as it stretched over her exquisite breasts. Her stomach was flat, even her belly button looked inviting to him.  Her long legs were gorgeous, and those tight black shorts she wore outlined every curve of her shapely ass.

He swallowed hard. How was it she could be so fucking hot yet be so angelic and innocent? What was she, all of nineteen? And what was it about this girl he felt he needed to protect? What was he hiding behind those eyes that hid a lifetime of pain, and were much wiser than her years? He didn’t know much about her but planned on finding out. That was for fucking sure.

He heard the music stop.

Just like that, the spell was broken.

“Not half bad. The club is open from seven till three.  The slot is two nights a week. I don’t pay my girls but you’ll be well taken care of.  Tips are yours, except for the ten percent I take off the top for allowing you to dance on my stage.”

“Your stage name is Manhattan.  Remember it.”

He got up from the chair and started walking toward the back.  He turned and looked at her standing on the stage.

“See you at six, Manhattan.

That is, if you’ll be back.”

she lives for a world full of controllable anatomically correct, android men programmed to meet her specific feminine needs (wink, wink, nudge, nudge with a big waggle of the eyebrows). who look like the rock. and ian somerhalder. and idris elba. and that’s it she promises. variety. gotta have variety, right?

but alas…apparently that exists only in johanna lindsey’s genius mind. so until then, she enjoys her incredibly warped sense of humor. she reads tons of erotica and romantic, drippy goo that makes her heart go pitter patter. then she thought, hey. what, she said to herself. (softly, of course, so no one finds out she is indeed, 2 nuts short of a fruitcake) maybe you should write this stuff too. maybe someone will like it and maybe buy it. so she said, huh, you think? then she said, well…yeah, i wouldn’t have suggested it…(inserts sarcastic tone) and then she was like lose the attitude, ok? then she was all, would you just shut up and write, already? sheesh! and she did. 🙂
