give2takepsExcerpt from Give and Take:

Tyler’s maniacal driving, got them to Sadist in record time. He pulled up to the entrance and got out, quickly jogging around to her side to open the door. He held out a hand and she clasped it, stepping out onto the pavement in stiletto heels she threatened in the car to hammer into his head for being late.

As usual, he ignored her audacity.

And the violent threats.

She stood, noticing he hadn’t yet released her hand.

“Such a gentleman, Ty.”

He glanced at her full, high breasts, straining against the clingy, tight red tank top she wore.

“I don’t have to be.”

Lena laughed aloud, discreetly patting his crotch.

“Down, boy. Save it for when Sara takes your ass back. Again.”

“If you mention her one more time-” Tyler warned, instantly getting hard and full under her hands.

“Fine. I’ll quit. As long as I don’t hear shit about Blake.” Lena glared at him.

“Agreed.” Tyler reluctantly lifted his gaze from her chest, finally looking at her face.

“Why are you bitching about him anyway? You know you want him. So why act like you don’t?”

“Because it’s not necessary for us to rehash it,” She said, thru gritted teeth. “Now is there anything else you need to know, Matlock? And by the way, don’t think for a minute I’ve forgotten that you never actually explained anything about Danny or his divorce. Just an fyi.”

Tyler raised his eyebrow and didn’t say another word. He handed his keys to the valet and guided Lena to the back entrance.

Unfortunately, a few fans saw them, and as expected, started screaming. “Tyler, Tyler, Tyler, Tyler,” became their mantra, chanting and moving closer and closer to where they stood.

“Why am I friends with you again?” Lena sighed in annoyance.

Tyler gave her a disgusted look.

“Maybe if I gave you a reason to shut up, you’ll actually do it.”

She snorted. “Maybe you could try.”

He moved so he was directly facing her.

“Maybe I would succeed.”

She involuntarily took a step back and he filled in the space.

She suddenly felt incredibly small.

“Get out of my face, Ty.”

“I don’t need a reason why. Just…move.”

“Am I making you nervous?” He looked down at her, zeroing in on her lower lip caught between her teeth. It was fleshy and pink, with strawberry scented lip gloss. He resisted the urge to take a bite.

She was driving him nuts.

He licked his own full lips, as Lena watched in fascination. Then she reminded herself who she was with, her brow furrowing in annoyance.

He was driving her nuts.

Ty grinned at her. Damn him.

“No…but…your breath stinks. Yes. Your breath…has offended me.” She took another step back, using any excuse to move away from the natural heat of his body, which, she was horrified to discover, was causing her own body to do strange things.

Cheeks flushed? Check.

Nipples tightened? Without a doubt.

Wetness between legs? Absolutely.

Sheer panic at the revelation of Ty leaning in? Commenced.

Every warning bell in her body sounded off.

He was much too close.

In front of all of these people, he was actually going to kiss her.

Which was ironic. Because in the grand scheme of things, the minute Ty moved into her vicinity, everything and everyone around them faded, until all they saw…was each other.

They stood at the back entrance of the club, unaware of anyone else, when a baritone voice penetrated her senses.

“Am I interrupting?”

Slowly, Lena turned around to stare at what were always the strangest, most haunted, silvery grey eyes she had ever seen.

Her heart, perfectly balanced and safe within her chest, fell to the pit of her stomach with a resounding thud.

Of course, he was there.

That was how it went.

“Danny.” she sighed. “Fancy meeting you here.”

Three months, nine days, five hours…twenty-two minutes.

All came rushing back. Like it was yesterday.

The two of them drank, consuming each other in.

Tyler observed them both, shooting daggers at Danny.

“Hello to you too. Absolutely fantastic interception, by the way.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.” Danny sounding amused, not sorry in the least.

“Yeah, whatever.” Ty snorted. “So do I need to make introductions, or do you two know each other?” Ty laughed at his joke.

“I guess embracing your own stupidity makes you at peace with it?” Danny’s slow, sexy, yummy, drawl was toffee rich, stroking her neck and back like a warm caress.

“Oh, don’t worry. I manage to get by.” Ty observed the chemistry between Danny and Lena.

Drawn together. Like magnets.

Danny’s eyes never left hers. “What’s up, L?”

Lena’s kitty cat almost clawed her way out her pants right then and there.

Only Danny ever called her by that nickname.

She willed her lower half to stay in her pants and plastered a smile on her face.

“How are you, Danny?” She reached up, even in heels to give him a kiss on the cheek. He bent down and at the last minute, turned. She gasped in surprised shock, feeling his tongue, his deliciously warm tongue, trace an outline of her lips.

“I’m doing good,” he whispered softly. “I’d be better doing you.”

He straightened and moved back, his mouth grinning slightly. Wickedly.

Lena blinked, momentarily struck dumb.

Gone was the bitter, angry, hostile man she saw three months ago.

He seemed…different. Lighter. Free.

Ready to stalk his prey.

Her pulse beat erratically in her throat.

“Three months, huh,” She murmured…remembering.

“Nine days,” Danny supplied, unable to look away from her.

“Five hours…” He sighed, an exhale cloaked in yearning, re-living that night.

The same way he had every night since.

Tyler rolled his eyes, looking at his watch.

“Twenty-two minutes. I remember too. But who’s counting, right?”

Lena and Danny both turned to look at him.

The asshattery of this man was truly staggering.

“Yeah. I was there too, bitches. Don’t forget that shit.”

Authors’ Bio:

well…alisa did stuff and is still doing stuff. only now she has two boys crazy enuff to want her as their mommy. hey, at least she tried to warn them, so her job is done. she doesn’t like to capitalize, partially because she likes how lower case letters look visually, but mostly out of laziness. please don’t judge. it could be you. and she would say, hey. you’re alright, buddy. you’re ok in my book. now c’mere for a hug. the hug might be pushing it. air kiss? you are strangers, after all, with only a mutual love of poor grammar.

she lives for a world full of controllable anatomically correct, android men programmed to meet her specific feminine needs (wink, wink, nudge, nudge with a big waggle of the eyebrows). who look like the rock. and ian somerhalder. and idris elba. and that’s it she promises. variety. gotta have variety, right?

but alas…apparently that exists only in johanna lindsey’s genius mind. so until then, she enjoys her incredibly warped sense of humor. she reads tons of erotica and romantic, drippy goo that makes her heart go pitter patter. then she thought, hey. what, she said to herself. (softly, of course, so no one finds out she is indeed, 2 nuts short of a fruitcake) maybe you should write this stuff too. maybe someone will like it and maybe buy it. so she said, huh, you think? then she said, well…yeah, i wouldn’t have suggested it…(inserts sarcastic tone) and then she was like lose the attitude, ok? then she was all, would you just shut up and write, already? sheesh! and she did. 🙂

Why I Decided to Self-Publish the Path Series by KT Grant @Katiebabs

In the beginning of 2012 I decided I wanted to self-publish. I already had two years of publishing experience based on my work with epublishers. I also thought I didn’t have a chance getting a traditional publishing deal. I was burned by two agents who had promised great things, and in the end they failed to deliver. I didn’t want to spend my time and energy seeking out another agent and play the waiting game. The time I spent sending out query letters would take away from my writing. I was also writing for a niche market, mainly lesbian romance, and shorter works that I could only sell to epublishers. I also had some self-doubt about my writing. I really thought I wasn’t good enough to write for the “Big 6” New York publishers.

My plan was to learn all I could about self-publishing by reading up on those authors who had successful self-publishing careers. I joined self-publishing and indie loops and read websites and blogs on the pros and cons about self-publishing. I then tried an experiment to see if I could handle self-publishing. In the fall of 2012 I self-published three short stories, around 6,000 words each and priced them at .99 cents. I did everything one would expect a self-published author to do- create a cover, edit, format and upload to as many sites as I could that sells digital books. Also prior to self-publishing these shorts, I started writing a book that summer. This would be the first full length title in a series, and I would self-publish it. That book would end up being The Gate, the first book in the Dark Path series featuring a heavy BDSM erotic element. I self-published The Gate in October 2013, practically a year to the day I self-published those three short stories. Self-publishing was scary, nerve wracking, but exciting. Because I took a chance, I embraced self-publishing as new way to get my work out to the public.

There are some key factors to take into account when self-publishing. One thing is certain-you will spend your own money. Are you will to sacrifice your hard earned dollars on something that may not turn out to be the success you’re hoping for? If you’re spending money on a product, you want the best, right? With self-publishing, the very best should be the cover created for your book, the editing and formatting, and in some instances the promotion you might end up buying. I knew in order to create the best product possible, I needed a good cover artist and incredible editing. If you skimp on a cover and editing, you’re really doing yourself a disservice. There’s always an exception to this rule. Some authors can get away with horrible covers and horrible or no editing. But is that a chance you want to take? The same goes for formatting. If your book isn’t formatted correctly, no one will want to read it because it’s sloppy and unprofessional.

It took me a year to self-published The Gate because I took the time to find a cover artist who I felt could create the right cover for my vision. I was very lucky to work with a great content editor and copy editors who pushed me in ways I never had experienced, even when I worked with epublishers. My editing was tough and hard, to the point I want to throw my hands up in the air and walk away. But I didn’t because I had the need, the will to produce the best possible work I could. I wrote the first draft of The Gate between September-December 2012, and worked on editing it from May-September 2013. I wrote the first draft of The Key from October 2013 to January 2014 and then worked on edits from February to May 2014. It took over six months to pull everything together where it was ready for “prime time”.

Last week I self-published The Key, the second book in the Dark Path series. It’s the fifth title I’ve self-published. Self-publishing this book was second nature to me. It was easier than I thought. My one big regret is I wish I had done it earlier. I took a big leap toward something great and new, very much like when I sit down in front of my computer and create a new world and new characters on a blank white page. I end up making magic. Self-publishing let’s my magic run free.

The Key CoverExcerpt:

The walk felt like an eternity but lasted mere minutes. When he reached the corner of his hotel, he placed Erika on her feet. Swaying, she latched onto his arms. He spotted the nervousness in her eyes, and his chest tightened.

As he set his lips on her forehead, he cupped her face. “There’s nothing to be afraid of. I won’t do anything you don’t want me to. You say stop, and I will.”

She spread her palm over his rapidly beating heart. “Does my safe word still apply in this situation?”

“Yes, but only because it’s adorable when you scream ‘whiskers’ when you come.”

She smacked him in the stomach. He curled his arm around her waist and flicked the tip of her nose with his tongue. Her face colored an adorable pink.

He started walking backward and linked her hands with his. “Will you come up to my room and spend the night with me, Miss Walsh?”

She dug the edge of her front teeth into her bottom lip and tilted her head, acting shy. “What if I want you to be gentle with me, Mr. Crawford?”

He stopped and almost coughed as his breath caught in his lungs. “If…if that’s what I have to do in order for you to be with me, then yes.”

She lifted their combined hands, slipped his thumb inside her mouth, and sucked.

His dick jerked. That familiar tingling in his lower back spread around front and disembarked between his thighs.

“Enough,” he snapped and drew his thumb out of her mouth. He rubbed her saliva across her bottom lip. “Give me your answer. Now.”

She presented him with a smile worthy of an experienced seductress. “Yes.”

The walk across the lobby took too long for Max. Erika purposely taunted him by not rushing. He would have carried her in his arms like he had on Bourbon Street, but he needed to remain in control. He always stayed at the Hotel Monteleone while in New Orleans, and he didn’t want that to change. He kept his frustration at bay while she viewed the splendor, spying the lounge off to the right and the slow moving carousel inside making up the bar.

“Oh, my God, it’s a real carousel? And it moves?” She stepped toward the room, her face full of awe.

“At night, they have piano music and live singing. Next time I promise we’ll sit at the bar.” Hooking his arms around Erika from behind, he rested his chin on her shoulder. “But unless you want me to fuck you on top of the bar, we should go up to my suite as soon as possible.”

She laid her palm on his cheek and gave him an amused glance. “If we don’t, will you jizz in your pants in front of everyone here?”

He dropped his head into the crook of her shoulder and held back a laugh. If only she knew how close he was to losing it. “Put me out of my misery, and let’s go upstairs.”

She turned and, grabbing his hand, hurried to the set of elevators. She giggled loud, the sound of her joy echoing off the walls.

A few people loitering, including those behind the front desk, sent Erika and him curious stares, but he didn’t care. He chuckled along with her. When they reached the elevator doors, he pushed aside her hands, so he could punch the button first. She gave him a playful pout. He returned the favor by cupping her ass and squeezing her generous flesh.

“We’re grabby tonight, aren’t we?” She brushed up against him.

He continued caressing those two marvelous muscular globes, exultant her weight loss hadn’t affected her posterior. “I can’t stop touching you.”

“How about kissing me?” she whispered. When the elevator doors open, she yanked him inside by his collar.

He slapped the button to his floor then pulled Erika into the corner. He snuck a peek behind to see if anyone waited to enter—not that he would have allowed another inside. Once the doors slammed shut, he claimed Erika’s mouth, feasting on her lips, drunk on her taste.

We were lucky enough to sit down with Margo Bond Collins.  Take a peek at the interview below.

If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?

A jaguar—one of the sleek black ones that hangs out on a tree branch being all sleepy and lazy most of the time, but has razor-sharp claws that come out every once in a while.

If you were a Star Trek or Star Wars character, which one would it be?

And here’s where my inner geek comes out to play—I’m answering “and” rather than “or”:

Star Wars: I so want to be Han Solo, the rake-turned-hero. When I’m revising and editing, though, I fear I might be the Luke Skywalker of Dagobah, all whiny and resistant.

Star Trek: (How utterly nerdy is it that I’m sitting here thinking “which series?”). I think I might be Captain Janeway—workaholic, interested in science, considers everyone she cares for part of her “family,” but a bit reserved in day-to-day life.

If you were a food what type of food would you be?

Tex-Mex cheese enchiladas. (A basic Texas choice—with just a touch of spice!)

What astrological sign are you? Do you feel you are like the characteristics of your sign?

I am a total Libra, always trying to consider all sides of an issue. I work hard to maintain balance (and feel guilty when I can’t!). I prefer harmony and cooperation, but I am always happy to participate in a debate (as long as it’s a friendly one).

Missionary or on Top?

Switch it up! Either one all the time? BORING.

Does size matter?

Only if you’re having sex. 😉

What is the last book you read?

I always have three or four books going. I just finished these: Making Waves by Ophelia London, Rules of Survival by Jus Accardo, and The Harvesting by Melanie Karsak. Loved them all!

What inspired you to write your first book?

The first novel I wrote was also recently released: Legally Undead (http://www.amazon.com/Legally-Undead-Vampirarchy-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00KKV44BK/). I’ve written for as long as I can remember, but I had never finished a novel until I finished that one. Ten years ago, my friend Bill suggested I give National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.org) a try—for anyone who doesn’t know about it, the goal of NaNoWriMo participants is to write a 50,000-word novel in a month. I did that, and more, ending up with what was then a 100,000-word novel in six weeks. I’ve been writing books ever since!

If your book was made into a movie who would you want playing your characters?

Kylie: Emma Stone

Cole: Chris Hemsworth

LeeAnn: Jennifer Lawrence

Billie: Kirsten Dunst

How many novels, short stories have you published?

I published a short story when I was in graduate school in a university fiction journal. Other than that, I’ve published three novels, one novella, and a whole pile of academic articles and editions.

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

Yes! Taming the Country Star is the kick-off novella for the Hometown Heroes series. You’ll see Kylie and Cole again—and all of their friends and family, too!

Where can readers stalk…um…I mean, find you?

Food and memories – Her Secret Past by Victoria Blisse @victoriablisse @Totally_Bound

 Food and memories

Her Secret past is filled with memories and many of those memories are attached in some way to food. We all have certain meals, sweets, snacks or cakes that take us instantly back to a moment in our past as soon as we bite into them.

I took a memory from my childhood and used it in the novel. My Nanna was a brilliant cook. I loved eating at her house, especially dessert. There was one that everyone loved, so we got it pretty regularly, Nanna’s custard tart. The weird thing is, I’ve never really liked custard of any form but I loved my Nanna’s. It was creamy and smooth, sweet and silky and speckled with warming nutmeg spice. Delicious.

Here’s a short excerpt from Her Secret Past illustrating how much Ryan loves custard tart!

Memories cropped up all over the place—Gran had spent a lot of time in the kitchen. She’d baked the most delicious of things. I loved her custard tart the best, and if I went to stay there would always be one cooling on the kitchen table.

Well, as long as Ryan hadn’t got there first. He had a habit of convincing Gran to give said pies to him. He used to come up with some wacky claims, and I really think Gran gave in simply for the imagination in them.

There was the time his aunt had fallen down a well and desperately needed sustenance. Then there was the picky pet cat who’d only eat homemade custard tart. And my favorite was the disease he’d made up that needed an hourly intake of egg custard to combat. Gran always used to make another, just for me, but it rankled that my best mate kept nicking my treats.

Now, here’s the recipe for you, so you can find out for yourself how delicious it is!

Nanna’s Custard Tart

110g plain flour.

50g butter slightly softened

pinch of salt

a little cold water

For the filling:

400ml single cream

1 teaspoon butter

40g caster sugar

2 large eggs , beaten.

1 egg beaten (just for brushing on the pastry case)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 whole nutmeg

Sift flour into a large bowl and add the pinch of salt. Then cut the butter into small pieces and rub into the flour, until you have a grainy texture like sand. Add the water slowly, and mix until it makes a stiff dough. Place it in clingfilm and put it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

Roll it out to about 2-3 cms thick, wide enough to fit your tin (I use a 28cm round tin with a removable base). Place in the tin and press against the sides. Trim off any excess pastry. Prick the base with a fork to release any trapped air. Pop the pastry (in the tin!) into the fridge for 30 mins.

Pre-heat the oven to 190°C, gas mark 5.

Take out the pastry case and line with baking paper/foil then fill the case with baking beans. Bake blind for 20 mins, then remove the beans and brush the inside of the case with beaten egg. Place back in the over for another 20 mins until the base is lightly golden and baked through. Remove from the oven and reduce the temperature to 180°C, gas mark 4.

On to the filling! Put the cream and butter in a saucepan and bring it up to a gentle simmer. Separately whisk the beaten eggs and sugar together in a large heatproof jug but don’t over whisk as you don’t want bubbles.

Pour the hot cream and butter over the beaten eggs, then add the vanilla extract and about half the freshly grated nutmeg and whisk ‘til just mixed.

Pour the filling into the tart case and grate more of the nutmeg all over.

Place the pastry case on a baking sheet and place it in the oven. Then bake for 40 minutes or until the filling is just set in the center. (test by prodding with your finger) Leave to cool before serving.

Fight Princess final cover artBlurb:

Things aren’t what they seem. Don’t get involved.

Celisse is too headstrong to listen. Her best friend’s boyfriend is dead, and she does not heed Cullen’s warning, slipped to her in a note as he’s being arrested for the murder.

Cullen tries to keep Celisse out of danger and also tries to avoid her, both unsuccessfully. He can’t deny his feelings for her anymore, but he knows he can’t have her. If she ever discovered the truth about his past, she’d surely hate him.

While struggling with her intense feelings for Cullen, Celisse uses her skills as an ex-prosecutor to investigate, all while continuing to fight for Ogden, the organizer of an underground fight ring. She eventually realizes things are connected—the ring, Ogden, Cullen, the murder, and herself. She races to uncover the truth before she’s arrested or becomes the next victim—or perhaps, the next culprit.

Through the peephole she saw Cullen staring her down, as if he could see through the door. “I know you’re in there, Celisse. Your car’s outside.”

Celisse grumbled under her breath. Then she spoke loud enough for him to hear. “How do you know where I live?”

“It’s not that hard to get a person’s address—as you damn well know.”

Crap. How did he know? “What are you talking about?”

“You made it downtown so quickly because you were already in my apartment.” His jaw flexed as he continued to glare at the door. She was almost impressed he was able to maintain that intense, pissed-off posture and expression when she saw in his eyes that he was barely hanging on through the exhaustion. Like riding a bike, if he stopped, he would probably fall down.

She turned the bolt and opened the door. “How would I have gotten in your apartment—and why would I want to?”

“You flashed a beautiful smile at Alfie. Don’t tell me you don’t know exactly what you’re doing.”

Celisse hesitated. Hearing him say that… She wasn’t sure how to react.

He pushed the door open a bit further and slid past her into the apartment. She didn’t think to stop him until he was already past her. She turned and looked at him standing in the middle of her little living room, like a storm cloud in her usually calm and cloudless space. This small, cheap apartment was the first place she had ever lived where she felt completely comfortable.

She realized he was looking at her, not at her eyes. She crossed her arms over her chest. “What do you want?”

His jaw tightened again, and he met her eyes like lightning flashing across the sky. “Don’t ask me why in the hell you’d want to be in my apartment.”

It took her a second to realize he was answering her previous question.

“What did you think you’d find?” he asked.

“Certainly not stacks of hundred-dollar bills.”

“It’s none of your goddamn concern how much money I have and why. Stay out of my business.”

“Excuse me?”

“My best friend’s boyfriend was murdered, and then the accused slips me a note that says things aren’t what they seem. What did you think I was going to do?”

He paused, and the glare in his expression that had about blinded her a few seconds ago dulled to the glower of the moon in a clouded sky. He turned and looked around her apartment—her TV stand with a couple movies on top, the potted plant next to the sliding glass doors, her one pathetic attempt at gardening, and then over to the bookshelf where he started reading titles.

She stood next to him. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“Does it annoy you?” He took a book from the shelf and flipped through its pages. “Someone going through your things, invading your privacy?”

Celisse snatched the book out of his hand, before he realized what it was.

“Are you pissed yet?” he asked.

“I wonder how it would look to the court if the police were called on you the same day you posted bail.”

He took a step toward her, and she backed up with her hands in guard position.

He stopped, and his voice was inside out from what it had been. “I would never hurt you.”

“You were arrested for murder today.”

His expression sobered, like fog pulling across a jagged cliff face. “I’m sorry. I never meant to scare you.” He walked across her living room, out the door, and down the stairs.
