Bitches be Writin’ Interview Session with Adera Orfanelli @aderaorfanelli

1. How did you get the idea for this book?

This book was actually written a long time ago, and then unearthed and polished (quite a bit). However, I wanted to play with the science fiction trope of being abducted by aliens. Instead of the “grey men” doing experiments, I wanted something different. What if the abduction led to a hunky man and a new life?

2. Why do you write science fiction?

I write science fiction because I love the unknown and the possibility of what might be out there. I’m fascinated by space (and weather, among other scientific things), and the belief that we might not be alone.

3. Why should readers pick up this story?

It’s fun. While there are some issues, such as the loss of a friend and starting over, to be dealt with, most of all I wanted Abducted to be a great escape.

4. Who is your favorite science fiction author?

I can’t really count a single favorite. I love David Weber, Elizabeth Moon, Tanya Huff, and Anne McCaffrey.

5. What is your favorite thing about outer space?

I love the stars. I love looking up and seeing all these constellations (man-made) and knowing that they are comprised of stars so vast and distant from each other that it takes hundreds or thousands of years for their light to reach us. We really are looking at a snapshot of history when we look at the night sky.

Abducted_AderaOrfanelli_coverlgGetting abducted by a hunky android wasn’t on Jacey’s list of things to do to try and reclaim her life after the death of her best friend and the loss of their business. But when her car crashes during a storm, she’s saved not by any rescue vehicle, but by Aiden Starsek, the Lord of BelaZed who informs her that he must have a wife or face deactivation. Jacey blames herself for her friend’s death. If she can stop another one, even if it means giving up everything she’s ever known, she will.

Aidan knows Deactivation Day nears and unless he’s able to find a human to love him he’ll die.. Unable to find love on his own planet, he discovers the beautiful Jacey on her own world, Earth. Her beauty entices him. Her compassion humbles him. And though in bed their passion is insatiable, he fears that it won’t turn to love in time to save his life. Only her love will save him, not just from Deactivation Day, but also from himself.

Author Interview with Kerri Nelson and spotlight on Remote Consequences @kerribookwriter

Welcome Kerri Nelson!!

Readers take a seat and get to know Kerri  better.  She welcomes your comments and questions. Also, make sure to enter her giveaway.  You can find the link is at bottom of post.

If you were given a chance to travel back in time, what year or place would you go and why?

1920’s America. I think I might have been a cute flapper and the fellas were so dapper.

Fictional crush?

Mr. Darcy in both Pride and Prejudice (ahem, wet shirt) and in Bridget Jones’ Diary (ahem, reindeer sweater). Need I say more?

Where were you born and where is home for you now?

I was born in Montgomery, Alabama and I leave near there now. In fact, this series is set in the River Region of Alabama which includes Montgomery, Millbrook, and Prattville. A gorgeous place with the nicest folks you’ll ever meet. I’ve lived all over the world—so I know.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?

Lemonade, sweet tea, milk, and a variety of juices. Left over spaghetti, roast beef and potatoes, chicken tortilla soup, homemade chocolate pie and homemade Very Berry Shortcake (my daughter and I made this for Daddy for Father’s Day). Plus various condiments and jars of stuff pushed way to the back that we probably bought to use once in a recipe but will never see the light of day again.

How did you come up with the title?

Well, once I decided to make Mandy a reluctant cable girl—the word “remote” came to mind and then I plugged it with consequences (as this sounded dire for the mystery element) and the title was born. In fact, I had the title before the book was completed. I always name my babies before they are born.

If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be? Why?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Cause she’s cute, smart, and knows how to kick but while remaining stylishly dressed.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you? Why?

Oooh. Jennifer Garner. Cause she’s gorgeous, smart, funny, and one heck of a secret agent. Oh, and she has cute babies, too.

What astrological sign are you? Do you feel you are like the characteristics of your sign?

Virgo. Observant, helpful, reliable, skeptical, fussy. Yep. That’s me.

What are 4 things you never leave home without (apart from keys, money and phone)?

lipstick, mirror, stylish shoes, breath mints

If your book was made into a movie who would you want playing your characters?

Mandy = Amy Adams

Ty = Ryan Reynolds

Colin = Ian Somerhalder

Paget = Molly C. Quinn

If you were a food what type of food would you be?

I’d be salsa. Cause it is spicy and fat free.

How many novels, short stories have you published?

I’ve published twenty four novels and novellas in the last five years.

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

I’m wrapping up Book 2 in the Working Stiff Mystery Series now. It comes out in October. Then, I’ll have a Christmas novella featuring this cast of characters coming out in a box set with other GH Publishing authors. Good stuff!

Where can readers stalk…um…I mean, find you?

Remote Consequences_KerriNelson_Cover_MediumMed school drop-out Mandy Murrin has returned home to care for her mentally handicapped, teenage sister. But despite having multiple college degrees under her belt, Mandy finds jobs aren’t easy to come by in small town Alabama. Now instead of a stethoscope, she’s forced to sport a tool belt as a technician for the local cable company, Flicks Vision.

But things go from bad to worse when, while on assignment at the Mayor’s house, Mandy finds herself in the attic amongst cobwebs, Christmas decorations, and…a corpse? Suddenly Mandy’s life is turned upside down with one missing body, a high school nemesis turned police detective, a mysterious stranger, and a town full of long buried secrets. If Mandy’s not careful, this could be one dead end job where she may not make it out alive!

Excerpt:

Two hours, three sneezes, and a half a box of Tic Tacs later, I was crouched in the oppressive heat of the attic. After two phone calls back to the office to ask my boss questions, I’d finally deduced that there must be a faulty coaxial cable somewhere in the house’s wiring. Finding it was going to take time and patience. And I was low on both.

My stomach grumbled with hunger, and the dispatcher had radioed twice to ask when I might be able to take the next service call. But I was stuck here in the mayor’s dreadful attic until I could find the source of the problem.

I inched along the perimeter in the near dark. When it came to blood and anatomy, I could stomach almost anything. But when it came to bugs and creepy crawlies, I was as girly as they came.

Holding my Maglite XL at arm’s length to warn me of potential eight-legged predators, I scooted my knee forward another notch and winced as a splinter made its way through my pants leg and speared my tender flesh.

“Dammit.”

I eased back onto my bottom and surveyed the damage. A shard of laminated wood about three inches in length protruded from my pants leg. I yanked it free and tossed it behind me. I’d have to tend to my wound later. A brief daydream image of sitting on a sunny beach—margarita in one hand, and a hefty worker’s compensation check in the other—made me grin. Not a likely outcome for a splinter-induced injury, though.

Boxes of holiday decorations, an old baby crib, stacks of books, and a deep freezer cluttered the area. Standard stuff. Nothing special about His Honor’s attic.

Deep freezer?

Who had a deep freezer in their attic? My head snapped back to the opposite corner where a standard eight-cubic-foot, chest-style freezer sat in the shadows. I stood up, brushing off the back of my pants. Deep freezers were heavy suckers. I knew this because I’d once had the corner of one dropped on my toe in my aunt’s cellar basement.

As if in response to the memory, my toe ached deep inside my boot.

I’d never seen anyone lug a heavy deep-freeze up to an attic. It didn’t make much sense, but at the same time—wouldn’t it feel great to open that lid and feel the mist of ice-cold frost caress my face? Memories of homemade ice cream and preparing containers of summer vegetables for the fall trickled through my memory. Summers had been good once. A long time ago.

Back and knees stiff from the attic crawl, I limped toward the freezer. I doubted it was even running. Who would be stupid enough to run it up here? What if it defrosted and leaked down through the floorboards? Imagining worst-case scenarios was kind of like a superpower to me.

But as I reached out to touch the dusty lid, I heard the humming thrum of the motor inside.

Probably shouldn’t mess with it.

I looked around the attic as if someone were going to pop out and shake their finger at me for snooping. But when no one appeared, I lifted the lid.

The blessed frost hit my face, and I inhaled the frigid glory. But when the mist cleared—my breath caught in my throat. Lungs frozen in an ice block of silent shock.

There, among the Tupperware containers, curled into a fetal position was…one dead body.

We were lucky enough to sit down with Margo Bond Collins.  Take a peek at the interview below.

If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?

A jaguar—one of the sleek black ones that hangs out on a tree branch being all sleepy and lazy most of the time, but has razor-sharp claws that come out every once in a while.

If you were a Star Trek or Star Wars character, which one would it be?

And here’s where my inner geek comes out to play—I’m answering “and” rather than “or”:

Star Wars: I so want to be Han Solo, the rake-turned-hero. When I’m revising and editing, though, I fear I might be the Luke Skywalker of Dagobah, all whiny and resistant.

Star Trek: (How utterly nerdy is it that I’m sitting here thinking “which series?”). I think I might be Captain Janeway—workaholic, interested in science, considers everyone she cares for part of her “family,” but a bit reserved in day-to-day life.

If you were a food what type of food would you be?

Tex-Mex cheese enchiladas. (A basic Texas choice—with just a touch of spice!)

What astrological sign are you? Do you feel you are like the characteristics of your sign?

I am a total Libra, always trying to consider all sides of an issue. I work hard to maintain balance (and feel guilty when I can’t!). I prefer harmony and cooperation, but I am always happy to participate in a debate (as long as it’s a friendly one).

Missionary or on Top?

Switch it up! Either one all the time? BORING.

Does size matter?

Only if you’re having sex. 😉

What is the last book you read?

I always have three or four books going. I just finished these: Making Waves by Ophelia London, Rules of Survival by Jus Accardo, and The Harvesting by Melanie Karsak. Loved them all!

What inspired you to write your first book?

The first novel I wrote was also recently released: Legally Undead (http://www.amazon.com/Legally-Undead-Vampirarchy-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00KKV44BK/). I’ve written for as long as I can remember, but I had never finished a novel until I finished that one. Ten years ago, my friend Bill suggested I give National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.org) a try—for anyone who doesn’t know about it, the goal of NaNoWriMo participants is to write a 50,000-word novel in a month. I did that, and more, ending up with what was then a 100,000-word novel in six weeks. I’ve been writing books ever since!

If your book was made into a movie who would you want playing your characters?

Kylie: Emma Stone

Cole: Chris Hemsworth

LeeAnn: Jennifer Lawrence

Billie: Kirsten Dunst

How many novels, short stories have you published?

I published a short story when I was in graduate school in a university fiction journal. Other than that, I’ve published three novels, one novella, and a whole pile of academic articles and editions.

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

Yes! Taming the Country Star is the kick-off novella for the Hometown Heroes series. You’ll see Kylie and Cole again—and all of their friends and family, too!

Author interview with Nana Prah @NanaPrah

Nana Prah was born in Ghana, West Africa, raised in the US and currently resides in Ghana where she loves her job as a writer and nurse educator. She has been writing since she can remember (in her journal) and has been an avid reader of romance novels since the eighth grade. She has finally been able to utilize the years and years of inadvertent research into writing her own romance novels where love always conquers all.

Describe your novel in seven words or less?
Unique multicultural sweet romance set in Africa

If you were a tree (or animal) what kind of tree (animal) would you be?
Definitely an elephant. They’re gentle, family oriented, and have no natural enemies (except for marcher or is it army?) ants, which they fear and humans). That’s because they can kick ass when the occasion arises. Just like me.

Do you have a specific writing style?
I consider myself a straight to the point person in life. This is how I write. You won’t skip whole pages about furniture descriptions when you read my books. I give you enough to get into the world of the character, but not so much that you get bored. Some people like all of that description, but I don’t so I avoid it.

If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be? Why?
Stephanie Plum. Can you fault me? I’d get Joe Morelli and Ranger. Yummy. I’d laugh everyday with Lula at my side. I could do without finding dead bodies all over the place and blowing up cars. Wait, the car part would be fun.

If you were a Star Trek or Star Wars character, which one would it be?
I’m all about The Next Generation. Before I settled on being a romance blog, I wrote a post about this question. Yes I’m a geek of massive proportions. I’d choose to be Lieutenant Commander Worf. He’s awesome. Tough with tender side you wouldn’t expect. You’d never see him eradicated from the show at the first sign of trouble.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be – please explain?
Chick is Strange but Loveable

Everyone has that weird friend. I tend to be it for most of mine. Oddness aside, I try to be as peaceful and kind as I can to the world.

What are 4 things you never leave home without (apart from keys, money and phone)?
Lipstick or lip-gloss. I must keep my lips supple and enticing.

My Kindle or a book. I’ll go back to the house if I don’t have it with me.

A notepad and pen to write my random thoughts and observations

Gum just in case my breath becomes a little funky. I don’t need to offend anyone during a conversation. I’m generous to offer just in case they’re offending me.

Top 3 favorite movies
The Matrix (I consider all three to be one movie for this question.) I won’t get started on why because this post would get ridiculously long.

The Princess Bride

The Color Purple

I never noticed how much I like movies that start with ‘The.’

If you only had six months to live what would you do with the time you had left?

I would pretty much live the way I do now. Life for me is a temporary event and everyday is meant to be enjoyed. With that said, I admit that I’d tell mean people off a little bit more (then apologize once they’ve stopped crying), exercise less, and eat everything I desire, namely chocolate, without worrying about getting fatter.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

The editing, especial extracting more emotion from the heroine, Ora, in Midwife to Destiny. My awesome editor, Zee Monodee, told me I could do it. I kept growling, but I dug deep and got it done. I was proud of myself when a friend told me she’d cried during that emotional part. Isn’t it the best to upset people with your writing?

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

I’m in second round edits with what I like to call my prison novel through Black Opal Books. Love Undercover is about a Secret Service agent, Sarita Cerez, who goes to jail to protect the daughter of a diplomat who’s found herself in a tad bit of trouble. The agent ends up finding an inconvenient love in Matthew Carter.

Keep an eye out for book two of the Destiny Series through Decadent Publishing, Destiny Mine, which will be released this year. It features Ora’s sassy cousin, Esi and womanizer Adam who happens to be Jason’s best friend.

Interview

Thanks for having me here today!!!

Describe your novel in seven words or less?

Revenge, Abduction, Scorching Demon Sex, Overwhelming Love

What is the last book you read?

I just finished two fantastic books. Gena Showalter’s Wicked Nights and AJ Aalto’s Last Impressions.

*Wicked Nights is book 1 in a paranormal romance series with Angels.

*Last Impressions is book 3 in an urban fantasy series called The Marnie Baranuik Files. It features a hilariously foul-mouthed heroine. I highly recommend it.

Who is your favorite character that YOU have written?

Of course it’s hard for me to choose. I love all the characters in my stories–even the assholes–because, well, because they’re MINE. But, I really love Valia. Her self-proclaimed awesomeness and her way with words make me laugh. She’s quirky, knows what she wants and doesn’t let much get in her way or get her down. Oh and she’s not above breaking the hero’s dick. I mean literally breaking his dick. In her defense, he kind of deserved it.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?

Seriously? Like you want to know everything? Probably not. Okay, I’ll give you the highlights.

Tofu (mine), Left Over Chicken (my husband’s), Jalapeños, Coconut/Almond Milk, Sriracha Sauce, Lettuce, Month Old Mixed Vegetables (yuck)

Oh and my favorite… Rotten boiled eggs that a friend and I colored for Easter. We may or may not have been slightly intoxicated at the time. Note to self: Throw rotten eggs away. No wonder the fridge stinks. Geez woman.

What are 4 things you never leave home without (apart from keys, money and phone)?

Tampons (because my uterus hates me)

Xanax (because people stress me out)

Lip Balm (for obvious reasons)

Small Knife (because it’s hard to carry my big-ass machete into most businesses without them calling the cops)

What are your pet peeves?

Oh, there are SO many! My latest though?

Teenage punks outside the grocery store who yell at me (and I quote) “Momma’s got ass!”

Yes, thanks boys. I know I have ass. I use it every day in one fashion or another.

Note to self: Exercise some of that ass off.

Erica Jong says she loves the word cunt and wishes she could “rehabilitate” the word and make it beautiful again. Do you feel the same way about some of the words you use in your stories?

Yes! Cunt!

People, please get over your aversion to that word! I know it’s a rough one for a lot of you. Hell, it was a rough one for me until I decided to conquer it!

But it’s no worse than pussy or vagina or gumbo-pot or hot box or twat or bearded clam or vajayjay or penis fly trap or cock socket or honey pot or snatch… *giggle snort* ◔◡◉ Er, excuse me. I may have gotten off track here.

Anyway, if you want to read how I overcame my aversion to the word, here’s a link to a blog post I wrote about it.

http://jocelyndex.blogspot.com/2013/07/to-cunt-or-not-to-cunt.html

Can anyone write erotic fiction?

I suppose anyone who can spell and string sentences together could write erotic fiction, BUT I don’t think everyone can write GOOD erotic fiction. And yes, I know, “good” is totally subjective, but not everyone is cut out to be a writer, just like not everyone is cut out to be a gardener or a painter or a prostitute, a receptionist at a sperm bank, etc.

Which of the characters in your erotic romance/erotica would you most want to run away with for a weekend?

Man, that’s a tough one. Of course, they’re all fantastic in the sack and super sexy. Let’s see…

*Kean, the hero of Araya’s Addiction, is part incubus and irresistible to women.

*Rydin, the hero of Valia’s Villain, is a TOTAL alpha-male (complete with horns on his head) and kicks ass.

*Fin, the hero of Fin’s Fantasy, is sweet and cooks. Hmmmm… I think it would be Fin just because he has the added bonus of being a great cook. I mean, sex is great and all, but a girl’s gotta eat too!

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

  • I do plan a fourth book in the Sempire Seductions Series but haven’t started yet.
  • I recently completed a short (approximately 50 page) contemporary friends to lovers story. I’m shopping it around.
  • Right now, I’m working out the kinks (unfortunately, not the good kind) in a demon bounty hunting manuscript.
  • Oh and I have an erotic short story coming out in a Cleis Press Anthology in August 2014. That one surprised me. I’d never written anything quite soooooo erotic. Makes me blush just thinking about it. Probably not gonna show that one to my mom. ◔◡◉

Where can readers stalk…um…I mean, find you?

Ooh fun. Stalking. But hey! It’s only fun if it’s online. In person, well, watch out for my machete!

Silken Sheets & Seduction

Valia’s Villain Quickie Excerpt

Valia couldn’t remember ever wanting another being so desperately. Her body hummed as his tongue worked her into a frenzy. Bossy son of a bitch, he was, but she expected no less from a Ferox.

She shuddered and moaned as he rolled his tongue around her clit, the pressure building in her lower abdomen. With her free hand, she wrapped her thumb around one of his horns as her fingers dug into his scalp, urging him to send her over the edge.

He growled and bit the inside of her thigh.

“Stop,” Rydin commanded.

“Stop what?” Valia asked.

“Don’t touch my horns.”

“But they’re so sexy.” She gave him her best pouty face.

He blinked at her, a look of surprise crossing his face, quickly replaced with a scowl. “Are you teasing me, female?”

“I told ya, my name is Valia, male. And no, not teasing. Your horns are super sexy and I wanna touch them.”

He looked at her for another long moment as if searching for something. He dipped his head and bit the inside of her other thigh. God, he was going to drive her crazy. He looked back at her and said, “They are sensitive and I am already too stimulated. I want to fuck you. I’m going to fuck you. If you do as I say, I may give you permission to touch them later.”

Oh wow. She hadn’t known his horns were an erogenous zone. Now she really wanted to touch them. His tongue lapped at her clit furiously. She avoided his horns but couldn’t stop herself from grabbing a fistful of his hair. Her hips ground against his tongue, his lips. Intense pleasure knotted deep inside. Little sparks began erupting inside her but just as she was about to fall over the edge, he stopped.

She groaned and still with a fistful of his hair, tried to force him to continue.

His eyes dark and his lips glistening with her pleasure, he said, “You were about to come. I did not give you permission.”

She choked out her words. “If you don’t want me to come, you shouldn’t lick me like that.”

His lips quirked into a cocky smile. “My tongue pleases you?”

“It’d please me if you’d put it to better use than asking me stupid questions,” she grouched.
