Author Interview with D.C. Stone @dcstoneauthor Intimate Danger Book Tour

Welcome D.C. to the Bitches Be Writin’ Interview Session.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

Oooh, good question. Usually the plots of my books are based on cases I’ve come across or studied during my career. In my daytime job, I’m an investigator, and have studied Criminal Justice for sixteen years, so the plots of my books go a bit deeper than you’d see in a normal suspense or thriller. Not to say they are written at the same level (after all there is SO MUCH talent out there), but I hit a bit of the criminal world a bit harder than would be seen in a normal romantic suspense. I also drive a lot of my military romance in much the same way (I served eight years in the USAF) and show what the real world is to a soldier, airman, marine, or sailor.

Who is your favorite character that YOU have written?

I’d have to say, by far, is the guy I’m writing right now. He’s a tortured type of hero: Special Forces Military Dog Handler, one who has been away from his family for so long, who grew up with a rough life, and who has to learn how to rely on others in order to let himself heal. He has this quirky sense of humor, but takes himself entirely too seriously. In case you’re wondering, he’s my hero in book three, Chris, of the Empire Blue series, Intimate Honor.

If you were deserted on an island, who are 3 famous people you would want with you?

Well, if my arm has to be twisted….it’d be Chris Hemsworth (surprised? I’m not), Jimmy Fallon, and Scarlett Johansson. Eye candy, laughter, and an overall kick ass woman to gab with. What more could a woman ask for?

If your book was made into a movie who would you want playing your characters?

With Intimate Danger it’d be David Gandy (I know he’s used so much, but really, the guy has it all) as Trent Rossi, Kate Beckinsale for Charlese Lopez, and just because he has such a big part in the book, Taylor Kinney as Dwayne Gonzalez (Charlie’s best friend).

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

I have many favorite authors, but if I had to choose one to stalk forever, it’d be Julie Ann Walker. She has the right recipe with every book, every time: Humor, sexiness, suspense, and an overall style of writing that really puts you right there with her characters. She always makes me want to pick the book right back up and read it again.

What is the difference between erotic fiction and porn?

Ah, the age old question, no? There was a post I did on this about a year ago, when I had met up with an erotic editor at a conference and we got into this discussion. We were debating on whether romance has a place in erotica, and his response was yes, it did. He said it didn’t matter if romance was there or not, but with erotica, the relationship between the two (or three, four, five, you get it) partners are more built on the sex and chemistry. I read a lot of Joey Hill and Joan Swan and these two ladies get it just right when it comes to erotica and erotic romance. I think the difference between the two (in keeping to answering your question) is while both are designed to turn a reader on, erotic fiction and porn would show sex scene after sex scene with no plot really written in.

How much does your own sexuality come into play when writing erotic fiction?

Eh, I mean, a little of every author normally comes out in their work in some fashion or another. I would say I take more adventures in my writing with the sexuality than I would in my real life. But then again, I have plenty of opportunities to eventually act them out. <winks> Should the need ever…ahem…arise.

What role does music play in inspiring your work?

It plays a big role. Each book I’ve written has been associated with some album or group. And each book takes a feel toward it as well. I remember years and years ago when I was reading The Dark Series by Christine Feehan, I had been listening to Train’s new album, and now whenever I hear them, I think of the series. Same goes for the Twilight series and Timbaland’s new album. It’s nice though, to be able to think back on books I generally enjoyed. Most times, I make a point to list what songs I’ve used to write a book with. For Intimate Danger it was the entire song list for Muse.

Do you feel that having a romantic plot helps or hurts an erotic piece of fiction?

Personally? And this is speaking from someone who HARDLY reads outside of the romance genre, I think it helps it. But that’s just my preference. I don’t like to see meaningless sex scene after scene, unless there is something in the end that’s lead to that to show some sort of character development. Joan Swan just did a somewhat type of “hook up” for the sake of hooking up, in her new release, Ricochet, and I found it to be done superbly done.

Tell us something that would surprise your readers, or something most people don’t know about you.

In my daytime job, I’m known as the Investigative Whisperer, because I get people to tell me their deepest, darkest secrets without thinking twice. <grins>

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

I’d love to. While I have two books being released this month, Intimate Danger, and What Could Have, they are two extremely different stories. One is based on romantic suspense, and that series will have a total of seven books, with a break off to another series, which will include another six. What Could Have is a Women’s Fiction Military Romance, and is a story about love being lost and found again. Bring the tissues for that one.

Where can readers stalk…um…I mean, find you?

I love stalking. I’ve included the hyperlinks. Please stop by for a daily dose of coffee, and weekly hits of Man Candy on Mondays!

Intimate Danger by D.C. Stoneintimate-danger-2

When FBI agent Trent Rossi arrives to investigate a chain of crimes—devastating murders and violent rapes—an inexperienced small town Detective, Charlie, who’s assigned to assist, finds her desire surging for the agent—only to realize he is the primary suspect.

A sleeping threat has awakened in the small town of Nyack. Crimes in the cozy village, garner the attention of the FBI, who assign two agents to assist Charlie in tracking down the sick and deranged perpetrator. Agents Trent Rossi and Dillon Echols work closely with Charlie, but as the crimes progress, dark secrets begin to cloud the air, blurring the line between who is on the side of the law and who’s against it. Being Charlie’s first major case, she’s unprepared not only for the menacing killer on the loose, but also with the unexpected feelings Trent draws out of her.

While Trent holds secrets, disappears at random, and seems to understand their perpetrator all-too-well, Charlie’s suspicions grow along with the pull she feels toward him. Her attraction could become fatal, yet she does not realize it until it is too late.

Annabelle and Lucas have just enlisted in the United States Air Force. The two live on opposite sides of the country, but are drawn together by a common goal, and a common connection.

Their friendship blooms, their trust grows, and the lust between them explodes. There are two problems with this situation, though. Neither of them communicate to the other on how they feel. And both of them fight against it.

Choices are taken out of their hands when, upon graduating from training, Annabelle and Lucas find that instead of being on opposite sides of the country, they will be on opposite sides of the world.

Ten years later, a common website has brought Annabelle and Lucas back in contact. The two of them have found each other after so many years; however, now, both are promised to others.

A brief kiss.

A heartbreaking realization.

And an accident.

Choices made that are, once again, taken out of their hands.

Author Interview with Louisa Bacio @Louisabacio & VBT for The Big One

louisabacio_tourbutton

You BitchesBeWritin’ come up with some wicked, naughty questions! Thanks for “going there.” Ahem, not that I answered everything. We’ll start out sweet, and then get the spicy.

Describe your novel in seven words or less?

Trapped in a bunker with a rocker.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?

Too much! One of my girlfriends says my fridge “scares her.” I stock lots of fruits and veggies, and a bottom drawer full of various cheeses and tortillas. There’s a mixture of two types of sausages to extra firm tofu. We’re a quandary.

What astrological sign are you? Do you feel you are like the characteristics of your sign?

I totally embrace my Libra nature. Life needs that balance. I like to make people happy, and do my best to weigh both sides.

What are 4 things you never leave home without (apart from keys, money and phone)?

1) Lip balm (I’m an addict); 2) shoes (hee, really I’m not a barefoot gal); 3) water bottle (it’s a stretch but as the forward to my book says, I’ve been in lockdown. I want liquids); 4) it’s not an absolute, but with my background in journalism, I usually can be found with pen and paper, too. If you don’t have it, you’ll need it.

If you were a Star Trek or Star Wars character, which one would it be?

I’ve been told I’m a bit Deanna Troi from Star Trek Next Generation. She possesses empathic characteristics. With my “dark, bedroom eyes” (yes, a guy told me that), I can look into people and just know what they’re thinking! *wink*

“Desire lives longer inside of love.” Agree or disagree? Why or why not?

What a poignant quote. My heart flips reading it, which means I have to agree. Are we going to come down a bit? Tell the truth? OK, every relationship is not perfect. There are ups and downs. The desire can fluctuate. But if you have love as a binder, you get past those points and it lives.

What is the difference between erotic fiction and porn?

Have you seen some bad porn? I swear there is no cheesy soundtrack playing in the background of my love scenes. It’s all paid royalties! Seriously, it’s about the love. I’d love to see some really good porn that’s catered to women.

How much does your own sexuality come into play when writing erotic fiction?

There are some times of the month – I’m thinking when the hormones are raging – when the sensuous writing comes easier. Good thing I don’t always write in a linear fashion, so I can take advantage of it!

Advice for the newbies just entering the realm of erotic romance?

Don’t censor yourself. In the first draft, let all the craziness and kinkiness come out. If you need to calm it down in an edit, then that’s a different story. But also stay true to what feels comfortable to you.

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?

Often, I tend to write short. With a busy life, I like to be able to read a book without it stretching on for days or a week. The novella length is perfect for me, and that comes through in my writing, too.

The-Big-OneExcerpt

“You want out of here? Fine, go for it.” Kayla pointed toward the doorway. “Be my guest and try to break the lock. If you succeed, I make no promises to your safety out there. We don’t know what’s happening. Maybe this was a minor shaker, or maybe the real thing, but what’s it going to hurt to sit tight and figure it out?”

“You plan on helping me pass the time in a more enjoyable manner?” He wagged his eyebrows at her, and despite herself, and her promise to have a strong will, a flutter started low in her belly. She couldn’t be attracted to him. He was such a neophyte. People like him never understood her.

“You watch yourself there.” She turned around and stalked to the other side of the room. Okay, given they were in such a small space, there wasn’t any getting away from him at the moment. He—and people like him—made her so mad.

“What about being optimistic?” he asked. “Thinking about the best in people. Self-fulfilling prophecies and life affirmations?”

“You can be positive all you want, and it’s not going to fill up your tank of gas. Having money, in smaller bills, hidden in case the banks crash and your ATM card doesn’t work—that’s being prepared. Just because I believe in reserving some supplies doesn’t mean I willed all this to happen. It did, and I’m ready for it.”

“‘Reserving?’ Is that what they’re calling it nowadays? I thought it was more akin to hoarding.”

Hoarding? He really didn’t get it. His comment hung in the air, and she did her best to ignore it. No matter what she said, the scorn from nonbelievers hurt. She grew up with her father being harassed by family members. It was only a matter of time before it was her turn. And her sister? Well, forget about telling her anything about being prepared. Maybe as destruction hit and a certain segment of the population was taken out, they’d be all gone. All that would be left would be those who’d taken the necessary precautions.

A wave of dizziness at the implications hit her, and she sat back down.

Right. As if life worked like that.

Blurb:

The last thing marketing assistant Kayla Morgan expects to do on a Friday morning is give a tour of her emergency shelter to a flighty rock star. When her boss orders her to play nice, she acquiesces.

Sebastian Cox, lead singer of The U.K. Underground, finds the American bird with the bunker in her backyard more than wacky, but the band’s looking for a location to shoot their latest video.

When an earthquake strikes, the unlikely couple gets trapped and finds a few ways to keep themselves busy. Once reality sets in, will their differences leave them on shaky ground?

Interview with Beverly Ovalle @ovalleba & VBT-Touched by the Sandman

Touched Sandman - Tour Banner

Describe your novel in seven words or less?
An erotic dream of Happily Ever After.

If you were a tree (or animal) what kind of tree (animal) would you be?
A cat! I’d go where I wanted and cuddle when I wanted, LOL. I’d lay around stretched out in the sun.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?

A shelf full of homemade chicken noodle soup. I make lots extra because my daughter comes to steal it.

What inspired you to write your first book?

Seriously? LOL. This is going to sound really bad. I was watching SuperGator and another similar movie and then stayed up and wrote my first erotic romance, Dragons’ Mate. I know, I’m a sick woman!

If you were a Star Trek or Star Wars character, which one would it be?
Q. He has so much fun messing with the characters on Star Trek. I think he’s hilarious. I’m a diehard trekkie! Being a tribble would be fun too.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?

Anywhere and everywhere. Just seeing people walking can inspire me. On occasion I’ll wake up with an idea in my head. That is what happened with Touched by the Sandman. It was one of those dreams that stayed with me when I woke up.

Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
*blushing* Most of the reactions, er, I write mainly erotic, you know, are from personal experience. I imagine it would be really hard to write sex scenes if you’ve never had great sex.

Do you see body type as part of the character?
Not really. We all have the same parts no matter the body size or shape. I don’t go all out describing bodies, more the parts, LOL. Though I do like those washboard abs. I tend more to mention coloring or the feel of the skin.

Why did you start writing erotic/erotic romance fiction?
It really just flows off of my pen. I’ve tried to not write erotic and on occasion a couple of my stories are not as hot as others, but well, I like writing it and my writing tends to go there whether I want it to or not. I think bodies are beautiful no matter the shape.

How do you describe sex scenes and keep them from becoming repetitive?
That is really hard to do! Thank goodness for editors and beta readers. They let me know if it is too much. I also use the find button to see how many times I use the same word. I reread the sections to make sure. If I don’t like it I’ll change it but it has to fit the tone of the book. No throbbing purple headed man wands in a contemporary/PNR tale that’s for sure!

Do you think it is best to call body parts by their anatomically correct names, or come up with euphemisms?

It totally depends on the book. I prefer to call them by their correct names as I think it adds a bit of a dirty little thrill.

Is there any additional info you would like to share with your readers about what’s next for you and your books?
I am currently working on four books/novellas I am trying to finish by the end of the summer. It depends where my muse takes me. Three of them are actually follow ups to books I have out.

One of them is another contemporary military, Her Savior in Camouflage. A Marine rescues a kidnapped videographer in Afghanistan. We originally met Alejandro in A Saint’s Salvation. Another is a PNR dragon shifter book, A Dragon’s Treasure, where Drake finds his mate. Drake is introduced in Dragons’ Mate, though this one is not a ménage. The third is Willow’s Cry where a park ranger meets a tree nymph he just can’t help but save. It takes place in the same location as Lightning Strike.

My forth is one I’ve been working on since NaNo in November. Stealing Hope is a dystopian PNR involving dragon shifters and how mankind is surviving in the after math. Dragons once ruled the world and they are once again searching for their mates among the survivors. This one started out innocently enough, then POW sex scenes, LOL. My son is thoroughly disgusted with me. He told me to take the sex scenes out. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that not only is there sex, but ménage scenes involved. It takes an awful lot of dragon ‘magic’ to change a human into a dragon.

Here’s a little peek at an unedited view of Stealing Hope:

Ari groaned, pumping faster as Hope squeezed his balls. Holding her head still, he thrust and exploded into her mouth. He could feel Hope moan and swallow, each vibration making him shiver until he had nothing left. Ari pulled out of Hope’s mouth and leaned down and kissed her. Hope moaned as his tongue explored her mouth and his hands fondled her swollen breasts.

“I want you again.” Ari’s voice was harsh. He moved, kissing her neck, pushing her down to lay on the ground until he could suckle a nipple. Hope arched offering herself to him. Ari slid a hand down and slid a finger inside her heat. Hope froze. It had all felt good until then. Her body was sore and tender from his unfamiliar possession. Ari stopped and dropped his head against her. “You’re sore.”

It wasn’t a question. Hope nodded and Ari groaned. “A little.” Ari moved his finger in her and watched as Hope grimaced in pain.

“More than a little.” Ari removed his finger and slid down. Hope felt her body follow despite the pain. He chuckled against her belly. Crouching Ari moved lower, spreading her legs to fit between them. Delicately he licked her, soothing the pain. Hope sighed. Ari’s tongue was soft and the light licks had cream gathering. His mmm of pleasure sent ripples through her. The hot feel of his tongue entering her, leaving no pain, only pleasure had her humming and arching. He continued until Hope was whimpering in ecstasy. Ari took a finger and rubbed at the bundle of nerves crowning her slit, harder and harder until she came apart in his arms, screaming. Ari licked Hope clean, each swipe of his tongue sending tremors of delight through her until she lay boneless, spread above him.

Hope panted her body pliant and exhausted from the pleasure Ari gave her. She could feel his hot breath on her pussy, his silky hair on her groin and thigh. As she lay, she became conscious of the brightness of the sky and the breeze blowing lightly over her exposed breasts. She could feel the blanket under her, twisted and lumpy. Mostly she felt the thrum of pleasure Ari had given her.

EXCERPT

The darkness blurred and shimmered, bringing to life a man of moonlight and darkness: Aryne.

Before him Aryne could see her, lying in bed, tears of loneliness staining her pillow. She made his heart ache. He softly stepped to her side. His hand touched her face and gently pushed back her hair. He leaned over and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, turning her dreams from sadness to joy. Her body arched toward his touch as the skim of his hand, the heat of his skin traced the edges of her curves. He stepped back…and then within the shimmer of dreams disappeared.

Night after night her loneliness cried to him. Unable to resist, he came to her. Subtly he inserted himself into her dreams, into her arms. Aryne knew it was wrong. As a guide, his job was to bring sweet, peaceful dreams. But no one affected him like she had. He was unable to resist comforting her, drawing her into his arms, covering her body with his…but only in her dreams. There Aryne stole the passion from her lips, igniting an ache in his body that would not go away.

Touching her shattered him. He knew instinctively that her touch would be his downfall. Her touch could keep him here in this splinter of his world, isolated as all of the Outcasts were. Generations had gone by; those exiled had died long ago, their children mixing amongst the races of the universe.

He had tried to stay away, fearing this. He was adrift, swept away, drowning in her passion, breaths away from losing himself. Giving in, acknowledging the power she unknowingly had over him would condemn him, keep him here if she was unable to travel to his world. Very few could navigate between worlds. And this world would drain his power rather than enhance it. Even the short time he spent there took its toll on him, the drain only in abeyance when he was in her arms. Try as he might, he could not resist her siren call. Only by controlling her and the passion between them could he make sure that he would not become lost. Lost in her. Trapped forever in her world.

He had done his best, gentling her to his hand, to his control. She knew the unspoken rules, knew the consequences. He played them out in her dreams, a dark symphony of passion and restraint. Perhaps unforgivable for a guide, but he could not resist. And just her body was no longer enough. Eventually he would capture her heart and soul.

A man of shadows, it would be during the midnight hours of her slumber.

Bitches be Writin’ Interview Session with Sara Brookes @Sara_Brookes

Welcome Sara to the Bitches Be Writin’ Interview Sessions. Sara is visiting with us to promote her book Edge of Need.

Now, Sara fictional crush?

Roarke from J D Robb’s …in Death series. OMG. He is too delicious for words.

What is the last book you read?

Cherise Sinclair’s Edge of the Enforcer. I bought it shortly after it released in May, but until I got through edits on two different books, I forbid myself from reading it. As soon as I did though, PHEW, I’m glad I finally got to dig in.

If you were a Star Trek or Star Wars character, which one would it be?

Now this is my kind of question. Probably Han Solo or William T. Riker. I don’t need to be the center of everything, the one in charge – but I am damn sure going to have some fun while I’m doing what needs to be done. *g*

Can you share a little of your current work with us?

Certainly – how about a little hot something…

His mouth closed over hers and he swallowed her soft sigh. Their powerful connection fired all thrusters at once and shot through him with an immeasurable magnitude. This heat between them was so intense, it got under his skin in a way nothing ever had before. And the way she kissed him back with utter abandon was fucking perfect.
He nipped at her lower lip, sliding his tongue between her parted lips to steal her breath. His stomach twisted at the thought of her offering herself to him this way. Baring her body for him to do as he pleased. He wasn’t looking for a slave, but he certainly enjoyed having a sub like Sutton puttering around his apartment bare ass naked. It allowed for certain…indulgences.
Like now for instance.
He turned, placing her on the high counter and nudging her legs apart with his shoulders. Giving into his earlier idea, he dipped his head to drag the flat of his tongue against the tight little nub of her clit. He tipped her hips, and was rewarded with the glorious sight of her legs opening wider as she lay back on the counter.
Dipping lower, he hooked her legs on his shoulders, his hands fitting around the lush curves of her ass. “You still smell like me, like my soap. So damned good. Soft. Wet.” He darted his tongue out, moving slowly to lick the length of her pussy lips until she started to whimper. His cock twitched, demanding he free it just so he could dig deep into the tight embrace of her cunt.
An expert at denial, he refused. Time to savor her.
He kissed her slowly, exploring every bit of her sensitive skin as the rawness of the moment stretched between them. Her soft voice sighed out his name as her body arched against the counter, her calves tightening against his back. Arousal was doing delightful things to her skin, the healthy flush an aphrodisiac.
This moment of her offering was so much more than he could have ever imagined.
So perfect.
So right.
So unbelievably decadent as she pulled him under all the beautiful things about her.
She sucked in a breath, her body going rigid as her hands clutched the end of the counter. He growled her name as he shifted his hand to finger her pussy. Her whimpers morphed into low, long sounds in her throat as she rolled her pelvis to open herself wider.
With a sharp cry, she came in a hot rush against his mouth. Watching her ride the wave of orgasm nearly made him lose control and climb on top of her. But he was already running past empty and needed something to reinforce the second wind he felt building in his gut.
He pressed a light kiss to her hip. “Fabulous appetizer.”
Sutton’s eyes popped open. “You’re kidding, right?”
“I don’t kid about sex, or eating pussy.” Adam hauled her off the counter and into his arms. “Especially one as magnificent as yours. I fully intend to feast on you again for dessert. Maybe even a late-night snack. Breakfast too, if I have my way. Mmm, the Sutton diet. I could get used to the idea.”
“Deviant.”
“And damn proud.”

Erica Jong says she loves the word cunt and wishes she could “rehabilitate” the word and make it beautiful again. Do you feel the same way about some of the words you use in your stories?

I do. And I didn’t always feel that way. When I wrote my very first erotic romance, the word cunt couldn’t be found anywhere. I was even shy about using pussy. I felt like I could get my point across about what I was talking about without being so blatant. But then I wrote Ragged Edge, the first book in the Body Masters series and all hell broke loose. *g*

Is a polyamorous relationship just a fantasy or can it truly be successful?

With the right amount of work by all parties involved, it can be successful. I imagine that kind of arrangement takes a great deal of work, more than the traditional relationship model of a couple. But I don’t see any reason at all why it has to be relegated to just fantasy if all parties agree and they want to put in the time and effort.

Do you think it is best to call body parts by their anatomically correct names, or come up with euphemisms?

I call ‘em like I see ‘em. Occasionally I will change things up a little bit just for variety so it’s not all pussy, dick, cunt and cock. But for the most part, that’s exactly what they are.

Which of the characters in your erotic romance/erotica would you most want to run away with for a weekend?
