Inspiration for Desire & Deception by Sahara Roberts @SizzlingPR @SaharaRobertsBK

Thank you for having me over this morning. I hope you like coffee, I picked up lattes for us on the way over. <grin> So, you were interested in how I came up with Desire and Deception.

Although the story is purely a work of fiction, the idea came from a news report. A few years ago two girls went into Mexico on a given weekend and didn’t come home. I’m sorry to say, at any other time, the story would have gone by without attracting too much attention. This case was different. Friends and family called the news, suddenly the local media was involved. This led to the FBI looking into the case. On the Mexican side of the border, the story hit the news and authorities started a city-wide search resulting in the girls being brought home safely.

Brat (DH) and I got to talking about the story. He brought up a good point. If you notice, today’s big news reports are about twenty-five percent fact and seventy-five percent speculation. Once you hear the first few seconds of what “actually happened” the rest is speculation by the newscaster or some leading authority on the situation. The possible conclusions are left to your imagination. In my case, it led Brat and me down the path to Desire and Deception.

We knew we’d start with a kidnapping. Then I put myself in Kris’s shoes and wondered, what would I do, how would I live, and what brought me here? Worse yet, what have I done and what am I capable of? The cartel has their own way of doing things. A romance novel isn’t exactly a place to describe the kind of ruthlessness they’ve been conditioned for.

Finally, I came up with the how, when, and where. Considering world building leaves you with infinite possibilities and situations, we had a lot to draw from. At one point D&D was going to take place on a ranch. I liked the set up, but not for this story. I ultimately decided to keep the setting in the city.

I invite you to come visit Monterrey, Nuevo Leon where you’ll meet Kris, a Mexican-American ICE agent working undercover within the cartel’s network. He’s holding Tessa, an American visiting the area, while he tries to figure out if she was in the wrong place at the wrong time or a clever drug mule trying to pull one over on him.

DesireAndDeception500Tagline: On the thin line between life and death lies…

Book Synopsis: Tessa Marshal has fulfilled her long awaited dream of homeownership. She celebrates by taking a vacation with a friend but gets more than she bargained for when her adventure becomes a terrifying ordeal.

Deep cover agent Kristopher “Kris” Harmon has spent years climbing the ranks within the Mexican cartel. He walks a tight line between vicious drug runners with agendas of their own and working with the cartel leaders he’s trying to organize. Any distraction could prove fatal for him—and for the hundreds of undercover law enforcement officers his own cover protects.

Their worlds collide when Tessa is mistaken for a drug mule and taken captive. As time runs out for both of them, Tessa has to reach beyond her fears and trust a stranger while Kris must choose between his lifelong ambitions and saving Tessa’s life. If they want to survive, both must trust that there is more to the other than what meets the eye.

  1. Love it when authors build plots on actual events. It’s so easy to slide into those types of books and really immerse yourself in the story.

Also love the smokin hot man on the cover! Congrats on your release!
